Ain’t you a clever old stick!! Didn’t even think of that (obviously). Sorted, thanks.
Hi, thanks for coming back to me. As they say ‘ been there, done that’! That was my first port of call but the system can’t actually find any backups dated 27th August. I’m guessing there is an index somewhere that lists all the backups and that’s the file I need to edit.
Hi Tanmay0713
I’ve been following this thread with interest and I notice Gabe has recommended trying to convert images to the WebP format. I can recommend a free piece of software called Irfanview (get it from here https://www.irfanview.com/)
It can deal with just about every type of image and convert it to anything else. If you are considering WebP, be careful when you do the conversion. A straight forward conversion could leave you with a bigger file so make sure you use the compression available in Irfanview. I normally knock it down to about 20% of the original. A second problem might be Apple devices. If users haven’t got the latest update for Ipad or Iphone they won’t be able to view WebP images.

In reply to: [Embed PDF Viewer] Problems with IphoneThanks Andy. The bloke who said he couldn’t see them on the iPhone now can but only half the page on the iPad!! Getting Google and Apple to talk to each other would be akin to getting the Pope elected Chief Rabbi!
I’ll put a note on the page telling Apple users to contact me if they have a problem. Perhaps sending a printed copy by snail mail would solve it.
Incidentally, I would like to record my thanks for an excellent plug-in. Does everything I need (even if I’m not an Apple user).
Hi WFAdam. I’ve been in touch with Siteground and they’ve fixed the problem. Using the Siteground Site Tools, go to WordPress, Install & Manage, Manage Installations, Actions and then the three dots at the end, choose Reset Permissions.
I have to say the Siteground help system is excellent. I wrote out the problem, went to live chat, got a response in under 30 seconds and a fix in 2 minutes.
Looking around Google I think I could have reset the permissions using FTP but this way was a whole lot easier!
Thanks for coming back to me. I tried learning mode but SG is clearly jumping in before WAF has a chance to react, even in learning mode.
I’ve now removed the SG Optimiser and installed the WP one instead. I will indeed write to SiteGround and see what they have to say. For the moment I’ll mark this as resolved but reopen it if I find anything of interest.
Once again, thank-you for your time.
Thanks. There is clearly a conflict between SiteGround Optimiser and WAF. Rather than just clear the cache I also deactivated SG and then tried the optimization with WAF in full mode. All worked fine. Reversing the process and deactivating WAF and reactivating SG also works. So somewhere in SG there is a setting which needs to be changed. I’ve turned off the settings for Dynamic caching and Memcaching along with all the front end optimisation but still no joy. WAF is far more important than SG so I’ll try WP Optimise instead and see if that is less aggressive. Unless you can suggest where I might find the conflict?
Hi, thanks for coming back to me. Unfortunately, even in learning mode I still can’t see the page I am customising. I don’t know if it will help but the Divi theme is trying to open this page –
https://mywebsite.org.uk/wp-admin/customize.php?et_customizer_option_set=theme
(I’ve changed the web site name) so is it something to do with the fact that I’m trying to run a php script?Interestingly enough, if I deactivate WF, start the customisation in a different tab and then reactivate WF I can continue with the edit process without hindrance.

In reply to: [Asset CleanUp: Page Speed Booster] Cannot write to fileGabe
Just checked the log file again and the problem seems to have gone away. At least there have been no more entries since the 21st September so I’ll mark this as resolved.

In reply to: [Embed PDF Viewer] Large white gap above PDF viewer on mobileThanks for a useful reply. I am also using Divi and was experiencing the white space on mobile. Now I know the fix (thanks Andy) I am using Gabriel Livan’s plugin, Asset Cleanup which allows me to stop individual .js files from loading on specific pages. I have stopped this from loading on the appropriate page – /wp-content/themes/Divi/includes/builder/scripts/ext/jquery.fitvids.js and the white space on mobile has gone.
I guess from the title, the js file is for fitting videos onto a page so it could be a problem if you’ve got videos and and embedded PDF’s on the same page but otherwise it works.

In reply to: [Asset CleanUp: Page Speed Booster] A must have!Well done. I think I can follow what you’ve done and could probably make it happen on my River Gipping Trust site but I need to balance my time and ability with the fact that I’m currently getting Page Speed Insights of 91 on mobile and 97 on desktop simply using all the stuff built in to Gabe’s programme. I’m pretty sure that if I got the Pro version of his plugin where I could defer some CSS I would remove another 100 kb of resource blocking and move the score up to 95/100.
Against all that I would need to create a child theme, install Chrome and create a new test website in order to carry out your suggestions. I like your comment halfway through “Now comes the tricky part.” You should have put that at the very beginning!!
Despite your obvious enthusiasm for the subject I think I’ll hold it for the moment, particularly as I’m now trying to clean the site of a back door trojan in a piece of PHP which some b…..d has managed to put into the mu-plugins directory on the server.

In reply to: [Asset CleanUp: Page Speed Booster] A must have! Some website owners though do not consider it important and they don’t mind if the visitors are waiting for an extra 0.5s (depending on the internet connection, sometimes, it could be 0.2s which is alright) delay. I hope it helps!
That, of course, is the crunch. A potential reduction in wait time of 750ms against a few hundred dollars assuming that the user has got a high speed fibre connection. Given the nature of the site, the fact that we aren’t selling anything and the age profile of the people looking at the site I think I’ve done just about all I need to do for now.
Thanks for all your help and advice.Forum: Reviews
In reply to: [Asset CleanUp: Page Speed Booster] A must have! Thanks Gabe. Our server already supports HTTP/2 so no problem there. I think I’ll post on the Divi forum and ask if they have any plans to split the CSS down into manageable chunks.
I would love to use Asset CleanUp to load a different (smaller) CSS file but that assumes I can find someone to write it for me! How much do you reckon it would be likely to cost?Forum: Reviews
In reply to: [Asset CleanUp: Page Speed Booster] A must have!Interesting. I am using the plugin with Divi, and like you I got a massive improvement in scores. I’ve still got big problem with a part of Divi that Gabe has looked at and offered a solution but it will cost. This minified module – https://rivergippingtrust.org.uk/wp-content/cache/wpo-minify/1598351517/assets/wpo-minify-header-divi-style.min.css – is packed with Divi code, 90% of which isn’t needed for our site. Problem is, I can’t simply use the plugin to stop it loading as that 10% is still needed. Gabe says the only way forward is for someone to extract the parts I need and write a new module. Way beyond me, I’m afraid.
