Hi @girlieworks, thanks for letting me know. It’s still glitchy. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t. Another weird thing it does is sometimes I’ll enter the address in the browser window and hit enter, but nothing happens, it’s literally blank. Only when I hit refresh does it pull the page. And it’s much more likely to happen if I haven’t logged in a while, like in an hour, versus if I was just on the page a few minutes ago.

Well it doesn’t seem to be AdSense. I just re-instated it and so far so good. Glad this is getting some sort of resolution. Weird thing is, I didn’t even have Infolinks running on my site, but because I had the plugin activated, it still messed up my stats.

I’d say wait at least another hour passes to see any noticeable difference. I still haven’t activated my Infolinks because I’m scared it’s actually the culprit. Keep us posted. So far, mine is still working fine, with AdSense and Infolinks deactivated.

Maybe it’s the infolinks plugin? Do you have that on your websites? It’s the last plugin I still haven’t re-activated. Seven hours later and my stats are still working fine.

Hey guys, my issue is resolved. I deleted AdSense ads and it’s been fine since 5am when I first deleted it. My page views are now what it normally is and I don’t get the strange ‘undefined’ string any more. *knock on wood*

I’m not sure if it’s bots for mine because I’m not getting any strange referrers. If you look at my sessions, the same number of people are visiting as on a typical day, but the page views are spiked. So it’s almost like a person lands on the page, but instead of just counting that one page as a hit, it’s adding strings of undefined/static/etc as well.

Anyway, I think mine is working fine now. Here’s a screen capture of my page views this morning:

As you can see, at around 5am I did a few things and so far it’s looking good. Blue is page views today, and orange is page views from last Friday, so since 5am, it seems to match up.

What I did was I deleted all my AdSense ads.

Then I deactivated the following plugins:

CommentLuv
Infolinks Official Plugin
StarBox

I started with the lease important plugins and so far it seems to work. I will slowly add them again every hour to see any impact, and lastly, add the AdSense back in, though my suspicion is that it’s actually the AdSense.

So I disabled my AdSense to see if it works, but I don’t even think it’s the culprit because some pages of mine had the added string of nonsense even when there were no AdSense ads placed on it. But maybe you guys can try and see what you come up with?

I’m going to start disabling a few of my plugins to test and troubleshoot if it’s any of those.

Even though I mostly have the blogger network as my ad network, I also do use Adsense on my MPEG poplar stars. I’ll try and disable them and see if there’s a change in the traffic.

I also plan to go trough all my plugins and deactivate them one at a time to test. I’ll keep you all posted. Apparently ‘undefined’ is a JavaScript term.

Seriously. I’m just glad I’m not alone.

I’ve since changed my passwords to both my blog and Google Analytics and had my hosting provider install malware protection just in case. If I find anything I’ll update this post. I’ve also started a post on Google Analytics help forum.

I have ads through The Blogger Network but nothing new has changed.

Anyone else have any guesses?

Basically, instead of:

https://mywebsite.com/aregularpost

it shows as

https://mywebsite.com/aregularpost/undefined/static/an/undefined/static/an/undefined/static/an/undefined/static/an/undefined/static/an/usersync.html

And Google Analytics counts this as a regular traffic hit, even though, if you go to that URL, it shows a 404 (obviously because there is no site that exists).

So my question is, how are these fake URLs showing up as traffic hits when they don’t even exist?

I’m not on a shared hosting on GoDaddy.

It happened at 2am today. So frustrating!

ictiempo, who is your hosting provider? Does it happen to be GoDaddy?

Is there a way to stop this? I don’t like that it’s inflating my traffic stats. Does it just go away on its own?
