    Unfortunately, the reason the questions are being asked here is because attempts to login get “It looks like your membership has expired. Please renew!”

    I didn’t mind paying for the Pro version to get the ecommerce I needed originally, but it’s not cost effective to dump $80 or $100 per year just to possibly (too many “It can’t do that” answers) get answers to questions on the extremely rare occasion I need them.

    I generally know WHAT I want to do to make the website more usable and the galleries look better, but I sometimes have no idea HOW to do it. Which often means whatever it is gets thrown on the trash pile ’cause it’s not worth the large expenditure of time and frustration to try to ferret out some kludge.

    Can you elaborate – I’m having trouble with the whole “lightbox” thing – I don’t recall ever telling ANYTHING to use a lightbox.

    Is it the galleries that are Pro Lightbox?

    My problem, I THINK, is that other than the 2 galleries for which I need to provide free downloads, EVERYTHING on the site uses ecommerce and has a price list. Which is part of what’s making this difficult I think.

    I have an event. In the event are a bunch of images, in sets, in a bunch of galleries. Some (most) have pricelists for the galleries and the users go through the normal order something, do the cart, etc. BUT, for this event I have 2 galleries they’d like to be able to download for free. If nothing else provides ecommerce and other functionalities, changing from Pro Lightbox doesn’t sound like a good idea.

    As near as I can tell, I have the image protection turned OFF because I can’t see a way to control this at the individual gallery level. I can find “Image Protection” in “Other Options”, but that appears to be an all-or-nothing setting. CAN I turn it on and off for individual galleries?

    (@skyykorat)

    As far as I know I’m not doing anything with “lightbox” anywhere. I’m not sure how I would tell, but I don’t remember ever enabling anything about a lightbox.

    I also checked in “Other Options” and as far as I can tell I don’t have image protection turned on – and since I CAN download an image from a computer I think that’s right. I just can’t download them on MY Android phone – I don’t know about an iPhone or someone else’s Android phone, but mine will let me long tap on OTHER images on other sites but not on mine.

    Maybe I’m doing something dumb I don’t even know about, and it’ll be more obvious if someone else gives it a try:

    https://www.dperezphoto.com
    Click on the icon for CFA Cat Shows
    Click on 2019 Midwest Regional Cat Show and Banquet
    Click on Banquet
    There are three images. Click on one to display the large image.

    As I said, I can download to a computer but can’t download to a cell phone… Let me know if it works for other people.

    I thought that too. But on my Android phone, I can see the thumbnails. I can do a long tap on the thumbnail and that DOES enable me to download – BUT it SAYS it’s downloading the thumbnail – thumb_nnn.jpg, NOT the actual image.
    Once I tap the thumbnail and the large image opens in the gallery doing a long tap does NOT get ANY response…

    I’d like to be able to have cell phone users download the actual image. Is there SOME setting I’m not aware of that needs to be set when the gallery is inserted in the page? Or something else?

    Sadly, I was hoping not, but from past experience I pretty much figured we’d end up here.

    Unfortunately, when I created the site, I used Imagely’s NextGen Pro, and they want additional money to update their plugin, which since the existing pages, albums and galleries work, I was hoping to avoid. Especially as it appears I’m not the only user getting this error and I suspect mos1986 isn’t using the same theme I am.

    Since it’s already broken, I may as well waste some time attempting to find out where the error in the Imagely plugin software is and see if I can do anything. Worst case I”ll have to pay them more money.

    I’d be happy to remove the album shortcode and such if you can tell me how and what you want me to do. Is the shortcode the html that looks like:

    [ngg src=”albums” ids=”41″ display=”basic_compact_album” gallery_display_type=”photocrati-nextgen_basic_thumbnails”]

    I verified that the album I want is indeed ID 41…

    As far as using a different theme – unless there’s some way to switch ABSOLUTELY WITHOUT possibly messing anything up, no. I only have this problem on new pages (at least up ’til now), and the existing pages, albums and galleries have to stay up and running.

    ————-
    Just to see what would happen I created a new page “Test”. Created two albums “A” and “B”. A is empty, B has a gallery called “testgallery” that has a couple images in it. They’re ALL VERY basic, simple, nothing odd or interesting. Used the normal NextGen gallery visual thing to add the galleries.

    As usual, they both show up, but the same error as in the original post. I’ve opened the code in an editor, but line 1392 isn’t anywhere that tells me anything. Then again, this is NOT my expertise so I’m not sure I’d recognize if it was something obvious.

    Bummer… I’ve got permanent galleries starting around ID 30 – about a dozen of them. Then I”ve got “temporary” galleries that get used for a year going up through 280, so I’ve got 8 or 9 pages of galleries. When I add a new permanent gallery it gets stuck at the end, very detached from the other permanent galleries.

    Makes for clumsy, slow, inefficient workflow.

    Is there a way to SPECIFY the ID when creating a gallery? I’ve got empty spaces at the end of the permanent galleries I could use if I could tell the software to use an empty slot.

    Yes, I received an answer from the NGG people. If you go into your wordpress folder and go to
    /wp-content/plugins/nextgen-gallery/products/photocrati_nextgen/modules/ngglegacy/admin/manage-galleries.php

    In there, about 5 lines from the top is
    if (!empty($_GET[‘order’]) && in_array(strtoupper($_GET[‘order’]), array(‘DESC’, ‘ASC’)))
    $order = $_GET[‘order’];
    else
    $order = apply_filters(‘ngg_manage_galleries_items_order’, ‘ASC’);

    On the line $order = apply_filters(‘ngg_manage_galleries_items_order’, ‘ASC’);
    I changed ‘ASC’ to ‘DESC’

    Now my newest galleries show up first.

    Cool. I’ll have to go play with page templates, and see what I can do with them.

    As near as I can tell, I THINK it’s something in the plugin since it’s ONLY gallery thumbnails and images. I got a reply from the plugin people and they had me rename a .htaccess file that was all the way down in the plugin upload folder… That APPEARS to have gotten things working as near as I can tell for the moment…

    The site you’re seeing isn’t the new one. I can’t leave the non-functional site up.

    On the “new” site, if you click on the “ACFA Cat Shows” (which is a square picture of the ACFA logo), you’ll get an album with thumbnails. But, selecting any of those gets you to a page with all the images missing.

    I did exactly that on the permalinks – just went in and didn’t change anything, but hit Save… Hasn’t made any difference.

    I’ll set the new site live right now in the hope that someone can tell me what I need to change to get it to work.

    I’m not sure, but I don’t think the plugin controls how the WordPress panel “Pages” are displays, does it? I’ve always thought the way all the pages for a site are displayed in the list is a WordPress thing. Am I wrong?

    With no response in THREE WEEKS, I’m guessing the answer is no. Given the author’s apparent disinterest in responding, I’d recommend you look elsewhere for the tools you’ll need.

    I ended up having to purchase a plugin to do what I wanted. It has some shortcoming but at least when I have a question I generally get some kind of answer within a day or two.

    I’m using Photo Seller. The alternatives mostly seemed geared toward “join and get ALL THESE things”, which I didn’t want or need, and typically cost anywhere from $100-$300 per year. Photo Seller has some shortcomings (square thumbnails, no use of multiple price lists for a gallery, LOTS of pages instead of a few pages with the album/gallery doing the work, etc), and some areas that are less intuitive and/or easy to use as they might be, but it’s a single payment rather than a annual fee, and it was somewhat cost effective. And so far, I get answers within 24 hours to questions.

    It was odd. It seemed like I was getting quite a few settings that changed, so I figure I had to be saving incorrectly.

    Unfortunately, I eventually decided I needed to be able to sell photo prints, and wasn’t going to be able to do that with the free version of sell media. I had to get the site up, and had so many unanswered questions sitting out there, I eventually had to switch to a different plugin.
