Forum: Your WordPress
In reply to: Happy St. Patrick's day!Hello, TrueMeasure, and thanks for your feedback. Your thorough response gave me a lot to think about, and investigate.
Regarding the load time, it was consistently in the 8s range for an East Coast USA server, which is certainly unacceptable. I tried compressing the images, and looked into other possible solutions, but the real culprit was a recently released plug-in that I was using. An updated version of said plugin seems to fix whichever issue that was causing the site to load slowly, and it’s now in the 2.5 range and noticeably faster. Just curious, given that your loading times were a bit higher than mine, are you accessing the internet from Ireland? (My server is in the USA and the site is intended for a domestic audience, primarily).
Regarding the other issue, I do agree that the link exchange service you commented on is rather Tabloid-y, although I wouldn’t call it “Adult”. It does remind me of the early-web style link exchanges, with it’s low quality content and intermediary pages. It’s no surprise that in an automated 1:1 exchange the lowest common denominator wins, and that’s what seems to be happening here. I can certainly see how this is something that is going to be perceived negatively by some visitors. For what it’s worth, this is a service that I’d never used before, and only started trialing a couple of days ago. I will certainly take your feedback into consideration.
Thanks again for your feedback, and feel free add more commentary.

In reply to: Blog url forwards to WordPress Install Pagewhoami, you are right. The posts are still there. They are just buried behind all the “Hello world!” posts. Thanks again for helping through this.
By the way, what is the likely for the options table getting corrupted?

In reply to: Blog url forwards to WordPress Install Pagewhooami: Thanks for the detailed instructions. I was able to restore my blog following your simple intructions.
Unfortunately, all of my blog posts are gone. I’m guessing that while the db was broken, and all my traffic was redirected to install.php, plenty of people went ahead and tried to create a new blog. Is there anything I can do to restore my posts, other than external backups?

In reply to: Blog url forwards to WordPress Install PageHi again. Sorry for any confusion, but this is a site that’s been running for years. The URL is https://www.thetshirtblog.com. I’m not sure exactly how long it’s been like this, but judging by the “New WordPress Blog” e-mails, it’s been that way at least 2 weeks.

In reply to: Firefox 3 is breaking my blogKaizer, thanks for posting your fix here. Which part of function.php file do you paste that in? Is there anything else that I need to modify in order to add this function?
Update: I tried using a different theme (which doesn’t happen to have any rendering issues with FF3) and I didn’t have any issues adding that function to functions.php. Actually the functions.php for that them didn’t contain any other functions.
Just in case anyone wants to take a look at the function.php file of the theme that I’m trying to fix (the one that’s giving me the error when I add the above function), I’ve posted it at https://www.starvingseo.com/function.txt
P.S. Kaiser, your own blog also seems to be broken when using FF3.

In reply to: Firefox 3 is breaking my blogHi Kaizer,
I tried pasting that in various places in my functions.php, each time getting a sidewide error and having to manually overwrite with the original.
The error message begins with:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_IF, expecting T_OLD_FUNCTION or T_FUNCTION or T_VAR or ‘}’ in…
I understand that this an issue related to standards and compatibility, but I’m wondering if there is a fix. Otherwise I’d have to choose a different theme.
