In reply to: Post Author, uhm, what? The problem I have with this, really, is the expandability of it.
For instance, I’m bridging vBulletin and WordPress (which has all sorts of issues already) in which WordPress utilizes vBulletin’s database of users rather than it’s own. As you can imagine, this creates a unique issue in that the drop down menu only selects users available in WordPress.
That’s fine if I was using just WordPress, but when it comes to this bridge to vBulletin, I don’t have any real control on what that drop down menu is especially when it defaults to ONLY users on the WordPress side.
What becomes a bigger problem is usability because as an Editor or an Administrator, I’m forced to select a user when I edit a post.
There is literally, no reason why I should be forced to select a user. Why isn’t there a “No Change” option?
Why couldn’t there be some Ajax that turns that Drop Down on?
Why can’t I enter a user ID or Name for the Author?I know that it’s not hard to add a “No Change” option, but I much rather not edit core WordPress Files or download anymore widgets and hacks. I can literally bypass this situation by disabling the ability to “Edit Others Posts” and having the Author edit their own stuff, but that is just a step backwards when the ability to have “No Change” is already built in. It’s just not available to me in anyway with out some ridiculous work around, widgets and hacks.
In all honesty, I think this is extremely silly and very limiting.
