In reply to: WordPress Security – what are the best plugins?Better WP Security has become iThemes Security, and is now completely broken. I’ve been locked out of my site (thank God I didn’t install it on any customer sites!), I’ve received numerous 404 errors (and been locked out again) and have hit all kinds of 403 errors.
Whitelisting IPs no longer works, and it’s hard to say whether the plug-in works at all, since all it seems to want to do is lock the administrator out of the site.
There is no way to delete old logs, there is no easy way to unlock your website, and the push from iThemes now seems to be “look at our new interface – buy support” rather than on making the product actually work before it was released to the public.
Until iThemes fixes Better WP Security, I cannot recommend it.
Well, I did get into my website.
I do like how my whitelist of IP addresses is empty. That’s a new change that I can really appreciate. After all, by whitelisting my IP address, I’ll never get to see that exciting error lockout page.
What is even better about Better iThemes WP Security WhateverItsCalledNow is that even when you DO put those IP numbers back in, it’ll only save the first line. So when I put in two IP addresses only the first on is saved. I thought it was particularly smart of me to put in my other IP address first; that way I can see the error lockout page again. I am kind of disappointed that – after putting my other IP address in – I only get to see the website like it’s supposed to be. How it looked before this update was installed.
So, having cleared up this round of iThemes Better Security questionable programming changes, I’m looking forward to what comes next. I continue to scroll through my settings to find out how to clear errors. It doesn’t look like there is any way to do that – like there was on the old (working) Better WP Security.
I have just gone in ad checked my website from my iPhone. It’s showing a Forbidden page…
Thanks, really, for this latest update. I really, really, really appreciate it.
I go to my website today, and it’s a beautiful “FORBIDDEN 403” error.
I really like the way it gives a totally different feel to the website. Before, the site was too friendly and welcoming, now I have a far more professional and antiseptic clean look.
Thanks, again, for the update! I look forward to complete failure of my website for the foreseeable future. I’m so glad I did this on my personal website instead of my customer’s websites.
Congratulations, again, on your launch!
Backups are for sissies. ??
Congratulations on your launch!
Just so you know, the first thing the update did was remove everything I’d previously whitelisted and lock me out of my website.
Thanks for the update!
