In reply to: Simple login to leave comment on my web-siteHey, Max,
Thanks for your help. I’m not quite as much of a novice as I was, but still waaaaay far away from a designer; so nothing is yet 2nd nature, ya know?
Thanks again. I’ll check the options.
Susan
Once again, I have spoken too soon.
I just went to do something ELSE on my site and found that the FEED had replaced all the nice additions I made to the very simple google calendar entries to turn them into GOOD ai1ec calendar entries by, I suppose, its DAILY update. I thought it would look only for NEW events, not wipe out events it had already fed yesterday.
Is there a way to tell it NOT to update calendar entries, but feed in only NEW ones?
After all the time and money I’ve spent on ai1ec, am I really going to have to just dump it? This just will not work for me at all. I can’t make the changes to every event every single day.
For instance, the feed allows only ONE category for all events that are fed in. So ALL those events went back to “general” from the individual categories I’d put them in yesterday. I’d corrected the address format from the way google had it, etc. Now that’s all gone.
Help, if I may be so blunt,
SusanI’ve finally figured out how to do the longer route of exporting from Facebook to a google calendar and then feeding from the google calendar into ai1ec. Part of the difficulty was that there was something wrong with the first .ics file from FB I tried to work with, so I thought the whole process wasn’t going to work.
I was just that one file. Lovely to waste so much time, isn’t it? Sheesh.
Thanks to everyone who tried to help,
SusanI gave up and switched calendars.
OK, so I’m very slow on the uptake, what can I say?
I have now exported FB events to my google calendar in .ics format. I have found the private ical URL to use to get ai1ec to feed the google calendar events into it, though I would obviously have to go through them all and give them the correct categories rather than the single option allowed at the time of defining the feed.
BUT, at the end of this, ai1ec fed in only 2 of about 10 or 12 events that were in the google calendar. They “should” have all looked the same, because they all got there by being exported from FB. That process claims to use .ics.
I’m soooooo confused, but then, that’s nothing new. LOL.
Thanks for any suggestions,
SusanOh, again: WP 3.4.1, latest ai1ev, and https://www.alec-destroys.democracy.org
Richard,
When I go to my calendar settings, I find no “ICS.” Do you perhaps use Google Chrome?
And, as for the support article, I’m afraid you have me confused for a developer. I have no desire to be a developer, though I know more than I did when I got going. I knew absolutel ZERO about CSS and WP when I started this project. I’m a retired computer tech, but I was the type who tore computers apart and put them back together and installed operating systems and software already written, ya know?
I thought I’d figured out a way to set up ai1ec to import events of every single category that I have defined for it from my google calendar and then just export from FB, say, a couple times a week. But then I realized that the stupid google calendar defines its calender items by COLOR, not category!!
All I need now is a way to tell ai1ec that, say, red = rally. After all, it does use colors, TOO. Sheesh.
thanks for your help,
SusanHi, once more,
I just thought I’d add that even if there’s no way to get the AIO calendar to subscribe directly to FB events, it does seem to be possible to export FB events to .ics files.
Then what? Is there an import into AIO calendar that I’m overlooking?
It seems as though this ought to be–HA!–simple what with the subscribing that goes the other direction, but . . .
Again, thanks for any help,
SusanHi, again,
Yes, Takayuki, that was the answer. Increasing that margin from 0 fixed the problem. Thanks so much.
Again, I was thinking this was talking about the margins on the OUTSIDE of the border of the form. DUH!!!
Again, thanks so much for your always quick efforts,
SusanHi, Takayuki,
No, that’s not from the theme, but it IS from the coding at the wpsnippet link. I guess I kept thinking that the margins had to do with the spaces OUTSIDE the border the wpsnippet code created. That’s why I didn’t change them.
I’ll give that a try.
Thanks so much for such a quick reply,
SusanHi,
I am still a novice, but I am a little less of a novice before I started this mess.
I wanted to do some of the same things you now want to do, plus a few more. Someone directed me to the following site:
https://www.wpsnippet.com/tag/style-contact-form-7/
It helped me change colors and create a background and borders.
I hope this helps.
Susan
Thanks for responding so quickly. This turned out to be just a stupid error on my part! DUH. I forgot to hold down the <CTRL> button when trying to select more than one answer. Dumb and dumber.
Thanks again,
SusanHey, Takayuki,
Ok, thanks for responding. I was so hoping to be finished with the major changes to the site.
I had looked at one of the SSL plugins and found that it was described in language that was aimed at people who are real developers rather than to me. That seems unhelpful. That’s my problem, not yours, of course.
Thanks again for considering,
Susan in TampaHi, Emanuele,
Actually, when I tried to use it, it didn’t seem anywhere near as free-floating as the demo video proclaimed. I’m pretty sure I won’t be using it after all.
This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t give it a look, of course. The more software Keypic can support, the better, right? But it is no longer urgent for me.
thanks so much,
SusanHi, again,
Thanks so much. I’m still pretty new to CSS, but that actually makes sense now that I see it.
I think that’s all I need for the moment. Thank you for your help, and thanks for your plugin!
Susan
Hi, Ronak,
Oh, sorry, I hadn’t looked on your website after posting the question here. DUH!!!
Since I was using your plugin as a widget in the footer area, I thought I needed to tell it not to get too big. You were right, “auto” fixed the error. THANKS!
One other question about the pagination though: now that it is on one line, the space between it and the bottom row of photos seems pretty large. I started to look through the code, but there is too much of it to find the margin or padding or ?? that might be doing this.
Could you send me in the right direction? I’d like to have the space be only as large/small as the space between the rows of photos–or close anyway.
Thanks again,
Susan
