In reply to: [WP Photo Album Plus] WP Editor not savingAH. Went and checked the photo description on my site and -though it *looks* to work at first sight- it doesn’t actually do anything [other than messing up the description HTML with several newlines] ??
After switching to “Text” mode “Update Photo description” works.
Sorry, folks, I thought I had found a grain of hope…Forum: Plugins
In reply to: [WP Photo Album Plus] WP Editor not savingI hate to disappoint you folks, but using the WP editor, I could rename a description of an album (then press “Update Album description”) and it then shows in my site. IOW, the editor works [for me]
I’m using Database revision: 7302. WP Charset: UTF-8. WPPA+ API Version: 7.3.02.007, but not the latest theme 2020, I’m still on 2017Forum: Plugins
In reply to: [WP Photo Album Plus] Wishlist(?): Different Albums for different usersWell, it took quite some sleuthing, but I’m glad to report that your suggestion worked, Jacob. Full marks to you once again! ??
I’ve ploughed my way through many a web page that vaguely came within what I intended to do and kissed a number of frogs along the way (read: tried quite a few plugins); many turned out to be emperors (i.e. much too advanced/complicated/fully-featured), while others weren’t even blue-blooded, i.e. just far too weak for my purposes.
In the end, I learned that I needed to think of my site as a “membership site”. Again, there was a multitude of options, but after some trials, my “frog-turned-prince” was the “WordPress Simple Membership plugin” (https://simple-membership-plugin.com), with which I can make unlimited membership levels as well as add unlimited members, who -upon logging in- are redirected to a new page I can set for each level (yes, that took a further addon; “After Login Redirection”). And all for free :-))
Logged in as a testuser, I’ve tried to hack my way to other albums which my testuser wasn’t supposed to see, but the combination of needing a corresponding login for the page on which the album is referred to and the encrypted photo links (/refuse unencrypted) you suggested above successfully kept me out of where testuser shouldn’t be. While there may well be ways to gain access which I haven’t attempted, I’m reasonably confident that these are reserved to a few advanced hackers who’d get in anywhere, regardless of any barriers…
Once again, many thanks Jacob, for pointing me in the right direction!

In reply to: [WP Photo Album Plus] Wishlist(?): Different Albums for different usersThanks so much, Jacob, for taking the time to answer my wishlist request in such a detailed manner.
Indeed, it makes little sense to check the album metadata and thus create a performance hit for all users when this is but a more specialised application (albeit one that IMHO might be quite popular, as I’ve been asked for this option by a number of friends…)
I will try your suggestion to set WPPA+ to use only encrypted links and place the albums on a page accessible only to particular registered users. It looks like there are a number of WP plugins that might do this trick, although some do not have the highest review scores(…)
I’ll report back on the outcome, just in case someone else might like to try something similar in the future. [just gimme a little time… ;-]Cheers,

That does it ??Many thanks, Jacob!

In reply to: [WP Photo Album Plus] Votes (rating)Good idea, that would indeed solve it for me.

In reply to: [WP Photo Album Plus] Gallery over 1000+ imagesOh, that’s an easy one – no need to disturb Jacob on this; A definitive Yes is the answer.
E.g. I’ve just added the 6188th image to one of my sites running WPPA+ without a problem. Pretty sure there’s folks out there who have > 10 times that number.
I can’t actually see any practical limit, other than server and database space, guess there isn’t an actual one (?)However be warned that it becomes increasingly difficult to handle their order if you’re putting that many images into a single _album_. That said I done it with >1300 images, but you need a lot of screen space and an excellent memory (/brain) to re-order such large collections.

In reply to: [WP Photo Album Plus] PDF supportNever mind: ”fs file with download and print buttons” works in the latest tagged dev version
Excellent! You’re quicker than the fire brigade, Jacob! Many thanks for reading my mind ??
Indeed, that is a workaround I can use (7.1.01.001). It’s also good to know that we can add our own stub – and it’s not an issue to me that only newly uploaded pdfs acquire this stub, though that might be worth noting in the helptext sub IX-B15.
As there’s no preview (using the stub), I might still add preview images with an overlay in the line of “pdf doc / click to download” to indicate to users that there might be more to this “image” than what they see in the thumbnails, but the fact that WPPA+ now allows for pdfs _without_ requiring a re-modelling of the rest of the site is a big step forward for me.
Many thanks, again!Forum: Plugins
In reply to: [WP Photo Album Plus] PDF supportSorry for the delay in responding, had to be away…
Many thanks for your valiant battles with the document stub, Jacob!
Indeed 7.1.00.012 includes said stub and works correctly in that I can upload pdfs so that they show up in the thumbnails as a grey picture with text: “Document”.While I understand the inherent HTML5 limitations, it seems a shame that I will need to select “lightbox” in at least VI-B5 (if not VI-B2) to show a pdf, whereas my site works quite happily with VI-B2=”full size photo in a slideshow” and VI-B5=”fs file with download and print buttons”.
There isn’t a way, is there, to set just one album to lightbox, the rest to fs photo? Guess not, though there may be other workarounds yet to be explored.@palaeoman: I hope you don’t feel I’ve stolen your thread, I’m much grateful that you brought up the subject and that it has gained traction.

In reply to: [WP Photo Album Plus] PDF supportThanks, Jacob.
I tried 008 just now, but I still couldn’t see a document stub.
So I uploaded a .png of the same name as the .pdf, and I could see that in the thumbnails, however, clicking on it (in thumbnails) just opens the png in either the lightbox or a slideshow (according to settings in VI-B2), but no access to the pdf, other than by clicking on the download link. And who of my users will think of that option?
What am I doing wrong (compared to your beta site) ?
Table IV-A30 Enable pdf is ticked. Are there other settings I’m missing?Forum: Plugins
In reply to: [WP Photo Album Plus] PDF supportSo I uploaded a png file with the same name as my pdf.
That gave a pic to view in thumbnails, but -when viewing that pic- there was no way to access the pdf.The “Edit Album” page says about this (pdf)file:
Available files: Document file: 6.27 Mb Source file: 1538 x 990 (1.45Mp) 1.94 Mb. Display file: 1538 x 990 px, 1.94 Mb. Thumbnail file: 600 x 386 px, 319.23 Kb.Forum: Plugins
In reply to: [WP Photo Album Plus] PDF supportTried 7.1.00.007, but got the same result: “Missing thumbnail image #…”
Somehow the “document stub” seems to be missing, unless of course I did something wrong. What’s the procedure to associate an image file with a pdf?
[I don’t have root access to this server, so ImageMagick won’t work for me]The “Edit Album” page says:
“Available files: Document file: 2.37 Mb Source file: Unavailable. Display file: Unavailable. Thumbnail file: Unavailable.”Forum: Plugins
In reply to: [WP Photo Album Plus] PDF supportSorry, Jacob, just read that you have folded the 3 Upload options into 1.
I’m sure that’ll be fine for everyone.Forum: Plugins
In reply to: [WP Photo Album Plus] PDF supportAH! No, I hadn’t!
So, back to re-installing RC 7.1, ticked box IV-A30 [Hmmm, I don’t have ImageMagick installed on this server…]
This time I could upload my test pdfs -they weren’t rejected, hurrah!- but my Photo Gallery now says twice in red “Missing thumbnail image #6148” (and
Missing thumbnail image #6149)Is this ImageMagick missing? Or do I need to upload a thumbnail pic?
BTW, In the “Upload” section, there’s only the option of uploading multiple files, the single and zipped uploads are gone. Intentionally?
[To be frank, I hardly need those, I mostly FTP pics right into wppa-depot, very convenient and doesn’t time out.]Forum: Plugins
In reply to: [WP Photo Album Plus] PDF supportThanks for the excellent news, Jacob!
I tested 7.1.00.005.zip, but have to relate a failure, alas.
I uploaded 2 pdfs into my wppa-depot but both were rejected by the Importer (“…is of an unsupported filetype and has been removed.”).
Then I tried the uploader (missing 2 options BTW, compared to the regular release), but I got the answer: “Invalid file-extension found during upload. Supported filetypes are: jpg, jpeg, png, gif, zip”
It seems as if #1 was calling again ??
