I use Relevanssi that has some advanced options for the admin. Not sure about for users (advanced search page) like you mentioned, but you could always shoot an email to the author.

I guess I learned that the hard way that you shouldn’t mess with permalink slugs to try and duplicate the whole category/name thing. I not only messed up all my events, but my other categories (unrelated to plugin) went belly up as well.

Oh well. I don’t quite understand it all, so I guess I’ll just put it back to how it was on a page for now (if I can remember) and keep playing around or something.

    Thanks again for the suggestions/help.

Thanks very much. This is great. So far from your instruction I have the event posts now displaying just like every other post in normal category format.

One problem I have is that I now have the event posts showing up under /category/events, but I am unable to assign the event posts to a subcategory of my main events category because they don’t show up in my main post list. Is that possible, or can those posts only be assigned an event manager category?

The other question I have now is if its possible to order these posts by event date.

Scratch the third thing about linked widgets. I did not have my event listings page url added under General Settings, but as soon as I did, BAM, links in the widget!

    Very cool!

    Thanks,

thought of a couple more that might be nice.

-events that can occur for longer than 5 days. (for such things as vacations, conferences, film festivals, etc.)

-the ability to make an event to be an all day event (no times included)

-and although I mentioned it earlier, it would definitely be nice to be able to include all events for all venues in the upcoming events widget.

    Thanks,
    Sel

    Hey Matthew-

Yeah, I’m not a programmer at all. I work with enterprise infrastructure type stuff (vmware, clariion san storage, networker backups, etc.) I do this wordpress stuff for fun/hobby, so I (unfortunately) don’t know coding at all. I can teach myself a lot of different things, but programming is not one of them (I’ve tried).

Usually I can find enough information to figure out how to make small changes that I need, but this seems out of my comfort realm at the moment. I would think most WP users are non programmers which means they’re either going to have to use the default form look, pay someone, or learn to style themselves. I’m all for the latter, but I also find it naturally frustrating (since I can’t play while I’m trying to fix/learn…lol) too.

I use the thesis theme and they have an outstanding support forum over there for members, so I’ll present my situation to them in hopes someone can guide me a little bit.

Thanks for the reply, and again for making the plugin available. ??

You’re very welcome. Glad it’s at least working somewhat for you.

Yes, I have seem others say they wished it would take simple text for a venue location as well. Too bad there couldn’t be a warning pop up like “no address found, do you wish to continue” and then you could still input a custom address. I don’t know what it would display for a map, but maybe with addresses it cannot resolve, it could just pull the city and state. The author seems to be very interested in improving the plugin, so it couldn’t hurt to request it.

I wish I could suggest something else, but the whole event/schedule plugin availability seems to be somewhat lacking as a whole. Not that there aren’t some ones out there, but it seems that everyone needs something so slightly different, and there are no mature plugins that have become even close to an all-inclusive standard go to for this type of need.

The other alternative is a paid plugin, but I looked a little and still didn’t find anything that much better than the free ones in this arena. I’m going to stick with this one as well as I like it’s simplicity and clean look. Hope this one ends up working for you as well. Best of luck.

I’m not sure if something has been fixed and there’s a difference between your version and the one I downloaded 2 days ago, but just wanted to let you know I was able to add a test venue successfully.

I’m still experimenting with the plugin (after testing out probably 8 or more other event/calendar/scheduling plugins) and so far this one seems pretty decent to me. With some minor exceptions, it’s doing what I need it to do quite well.

Sorry to hear of your troubles, but maybe it’s worth a shot to try a more recent version since I don’t seem to be having any functionality troubles with my recent download. Just a thought.

Oh, ok, makes sense about being unstyled. I’ll have to start googling for how to mess with that and make it looks a little better or something.

Thanks again for the updates and making this plugin so cool.

I’d like to throw a couple more things out there. If any of these are possible already, I apologize for my lack of familiarity with the plugin so far.

-Linked events for the widget that brings you to the event page.
-Or if not linked events in sidebar, perhaps a calendar view with clickable dates or something? (not sure how that would work for days with multiple events though)
-Allow the widget to include upcoming events for all venues.
-Admin option to auto approve submitted events (perhaps by role)

    Cool, thanks for considering. ??

Just installed this plugin and so far it looks pretty damn solid. I’m going to try testing it out for a private family website in the next week or so.

The only real concern so far is when I put in my first test event that ran for 5 days, it did not include the end date, only the time.

For example, my test event ran from July 10th at 1:00pm to July 15th at 11:00am, and this is how it was displayed:

    July 10th 2011 1:00pm – 11:00am at Venue Name

I just figured it might be nice to include both dates.

Ohh, and I know asking for an email before a form is presented is probably more beneficial to most, but it might be nice to make it optional for people with private sites like myself that don’t need that validation. (just a selfish thought)

Other than that, I have to figure out why the form looks so plain. Is there a screenshot of how it should look? My css must be screwed or something because my form looks very 1990’s. lol

If I find anything else I can suggest that I would think would improve it, I’ll definitely throw them out there. Thank you very much for the time and effort to make this available for us. ??

    Thanks,
    Sel

I could use this functionality as well. I have a private family site and would like them to be able to upload either multiple images at one time so this would be ideal.

I have no idea, nor can I find any documentation, on how to use this plugin properly, yet every where I look, people are recommending it. Does anyone have a link to some simple documentation? When I follow the steps here, I end up with a really unattractive looking event and a 404 for all events.
