Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Widgets Appear But Edit Widgets is BlankThank you Steve Stern, I greatly appreciate your kind help!
I found Classic Press and migrated my site to it just now.
My Widget panel suddenly works again and so does my favorite old photo posting plugin, Nextcellent Gallery.
I am migrating all my sites to CP so I won’t be disturbing these forums further.
I get that WP is headed in a corporate direction, fair winds to them and their bonny chests of gold.
I just wanna post my photos and writing and now I can again without getting angry at things failing. :^)

In reply to: Widgets Appear But Edit Widgets is BlankThank you.
I tried several of the twenty themes, including the latest one.
When I try to use the new beta theme editor on 2022 that whole page is also blank.
This is with all the plugins disabled.
I tried logging in with a Firefox build and get a 400 error, even with plugins disabled.
I think the issue comes down to Automattic deciding that everyone uses unprotected Chrome-based browsers that are allowed to connect to anything Google or Automattic and I refuse to do that. I imagine that the corporate people they are serving mostly do use some form of Chrome.
I can remember when using WordPress was a joy, it was useful and fluent. I have used it since 2004, shortly after the first version was released. Ever since the reimagining and Gutenberg it has degraded in usefulness.
Look out, sharks below. Are those forks ahead? Looks like it.

In reply to: [NextCellent Gallery - NextGEN Legacy] wpgetready.com site down …If you have PHP controls on your host you may be able to check a box to load that extension on whatever version you are using.
I have found that uploading photos stops at the thumbnail generation stage when using PHP 7.3, when running 7.2 there are errors but the thumbs still generate.
One solution would be to run the files through Rector, which would alter the
Function create_function()
to the current usage, but I was unable to update them when I tried myself. Also a tip for migrating from NextGen with the Importer.
Import one gallery first, then Edit it to use whatever lightbox you prefer, test by inserting in a post to make sure it’s what you want.
Then import the rest and they will inherit that setting. Otherwise they will all be set to Responsive.
At one point, while importing, I tried a different kind of lightbox and all those imported during that time were set to that.
Call this one resolved, found that setting in the template which is good enough since I’ll never change it again.
Thank you.
And… after sending the same question to their web contact, was subscribed to their newsletter, without even having to ask!
Although I did have to ask to unsubscribe.
This is not resolved in my opinion. This plugin has supported that option for many years.

In reply to: [NextCellent Gallery - NextGEN Legacy] Does this work with WP5.0?It does work okay. I am not a demanding user, only post singlepics or galleries and no slideshows.
I looked into NextGen today, it’s now out of Photocrati’s hands, maintained by Imagely, who are pressing for upgrades but in general the current free NextGen is working displaying images on a simple site so far.
Suggest trying the free version and seeing if the Settings and features are adequate. Likely has had more development than NextCellent has had recently.
Bottom price for more features and themes is 149, so it’s more geared toward pros if you want all the ecommerce and printing and so forth.
This is not resolved, still happening to me. I do not want any email notifications.
Please advise how to turn off all notifications, the new Dashboard is a mess for someone who just wants to change Settings. It’s all stuff to impress a PHB and not useful.

In reply to: [NextCellent Gallery - NextGEN Legacy] Is this plugin dead?Anyone home? Would love to keep using this plugin if possible. I already despise Gutenberg (did early testing to try to help, but it’s the wrong idea) so may have to move platforms.

In reply to: [Gutenberg] Blank editing page for post, appears in classicI tried again, editing that post in G from any angle the page goes to white and stops.
Made a new post in G and it saves a draft, previews, re-opens with no issues, including with an image
Tried previewing the older post and that works, but the Edit button leads to the white window. I also added a line in the Classic editor, saved it and tried again, got white window.
FURTHER EDIT: I discovered that pasting the content from a non-opening post (copying from Classic editor) to a new one makes it non-opening also. I then pasted the same content into a plaintext editor, TextWrangler in this case, and then c/p-ed it from there into a new post. That post opens and works.

In reply to: [Gutenberg] Blank editing page for post, appears in classicSorry about being tardy, replies go to a deprecated email, need to fix that.
Just tried the old post again after making sure G was updated. Now I get a completely blank browser window, no sign of WP at all.
Console on this version of Seamonkey separates all messages and there are probably 50 of them for this one click. Appears to be no way to export or copy the whole thing. Suggestions welcomed for a browser with a better console.

In reply to: [NextCellent Gallery - NextGEN Legacy] NextCellent and GutenbergExcellent to hear!
Thank you for the code. Noticing increasing diversity in Live Traffic from most slurpers; new locations, IP ranges, etc.Wondering how long it will be before the self-ID of the big ones becomes deceptive. Google has clearly lost any moral compass it may have had or thought it had.
One thing that would be value-added is a page of checkboxes for blocking slurp farms like OVH, Dig Ocean, AWS, etc, as well as the big soc-med monetisers.
Appreciate the Live Traffic tool and the insights that can be gained, do wish it could suffer fewer redesign efforts. IMO it’s really the standout feature of WF, but I can understand that it’s likely costly.
This is not resolved. Who says it’s resolved? What was changed?
