Just added Shiny, all sorted. So I am marking this thread as resolved ??

Just added it to my live site, looks great, even though everything is currently up to date.

I have now seen the light, so to speak. Case closed/resolved ??

    Hi Pascal,

Thanks for clearing that up, sorry about the cross posting in other threads.

I don’t yet have Shiny on my live site, but I have played with it on a test site, and liked it, a lot. I take it I can now add it to my live site as it only works on 4.6 and up?

    Cheers,

    Sean.

Hmmm…..after I did the core update to 4.6, there were still some plugins and the only theme in need of updating, but the old update process was used, I had to check the box, then click update all.

Using the Shiny Updates plugin on a test site it appears to be the streamlined version of what I thought was/is part of 4.6

I mean this, scroll to just under the opening video:

    WordPress 4.6 “Pepper”

I actually have the Shiny Updates plugin installed on a localhost beta test site. My understanding is that the plugin is now supposed to be integrated/bundled with the latest core update.

Thanks mountainguy for clearing that up. To be honest, I’m not entirely new to fiddling with .htaccess. It was when I first started our blog 2 years ago that I learned how powerful, but also sensitive an .htaccess file is, one wrong syntax and your whole site comes crashing down. I have bookmarked a direct link to cPanel, and am in my file manager with 3 clicks. I go in there every now and then just to have a look see, while Wordfence automatically does its thing, but I only went in there now to remove the line put there by WF which had locked me out of my own site. I have since whitelisted my IP and loosened the blocking rules, just a little.

I was only wondering if Wordfence itself would freak out if I went in there and manually removed a line it had put in there. That was yesterday, and all still seems fine.

I am a-retentive about backing up. Not so much to protect my site from hackers, but maybe more to protect it from myself ??

    Hi wfalaa,

Thank you for clearing that up. The general consensus from other research is that it was quite possibly a visitors infected computer that logged that outbound link. It is also the only dodgy link I have ever noticed in outbound. Even though I clicked on it, I was able to close my browser and clear all the cookies I didn’t recognise and then opened it back up and went about my business. A mild browser hijack this time. It must have been spamvertising of sorts as the site was in the language of my location.

For the rest, my computer and site seems fine. I’ll be more careful next time a dodgy link shows up.

    Hi Lisa,

Thanks for getting back to me!

Suspicious yes, but I am not about to just hand over money for what may well be some kind of false positive / tacky marketing push. I dunno, but I think I’m calling Sucuri out on this one. At least Sucuri says Google has blacklisted my site, yet when I go directly to Google, all is ok.

That last possibility sounds the most plausible to me. I already use Wordfence premium, the most popular WP security plugin, in other words I already pay someone to look after my site, and it shows up nothing, also VirusTotal and Google Transparency comes up green.

I believe there was a vulnerability with Jetpack at some point, but I was under the impression it was fixed?

    Edit:
I am going to answer my own question. I went and tried it after I posted the above. It appears you need to manually deactivate and then delete Scroll Triggered Boxes, after you have verified that your settings have transferred over, which in my case they did, a whole one box. This obviously only applies to anyone who was already using STB.

Have you updated WF to 6.1.4? That was a bug that was fixed in the latest update, at least I have just run a scan and that problem seems to have gone away.

That other fork bolean error seems to have been fixed, scans are now running and completing fine.

Now with the whitelist I thought to delete everything and extend learning mode for another week. I selected all on the list and then bulk action delete, and all but 2 have gone. That long one in my post above is one of 2 similar lines in the whitelist that are refusing to go away.

Here are 3 strange entries from my whitelist. The inspirational quotes part is an actual article, but the rest is a mystery.

I learn something new (almost) everyday.

I am currently in Belgium, my site is hosted in South Africa, and Googles servers are somewhere else, so it doesn’t come as too much of a surprise if / when there are network issues somewhere along the line.

    Problem solved, I think.

I went into GD and moved all (18) backup sets into one of the UpdraftPlus folders, and then deleted the now 2 empty folders from GD. I then went into UD in WordPress and rescanned remote storage. I had 15, but now had 18 backups in UD. The extra 3 had no logs, as I previously deleted them from UD, but as they were not deleted from GD, they showed up again. I now clicked on the red delete button in UD. The backups were deleted from UD, and GD. I ran another new backup, and when it was finished, the oldest backup was deleted from UD and GD successfully.

It appears the problem was the extra “UpdraftPlus’ folders in GD. There should only be one. How the extras got there is the mystery.

UD has now created more than one folder in GD, “UpdraftPlus”. I now have 3. The last one was made 3 days ago and only has the last 2 backups in it. Previously there was only ever 1. This might be why it is not deleting old backups, as it can’t find them.

I see this line at the end of the latest log (today) and also the one posted to Dropbox: “Deletion failed: file was not found”
