  • I use PolyLang on my site and I’m able to specify to filter widgets by language. I’m using English and French so when I put a widget on the sidebar I also indicate which language it should show up for. Every widget is there twice – once for each language. I hope that helps.

I’m just curious about the prices:

    1. Is there a limit on the number of emails we can send to a subscriber? Per day? Per week? We have about 400 subscribers, and I typically send two or three emails a week (new post notifications) but sometimes there’s something urgent and I send two or three in a day!
    2. Can we suspend the subscription? Is it month by month or annual? I represent a summer pool, so for seven or eight months of the year we don’t need to send any emails.

    Thanks,

My host, GoDaddy, does use cPanel but email authentication is disabled. Apparently it’s incompatible with shared hosting. After some investigation and following your suggestions I’m pretty sure it’s Exim mailer on my host that’s causing the problem but GoDaddy doesn’t see it that way and/or isn’t interested in fixing it.

Well, I just spent over 90 minutes on the phone with several people at GoDaddy. Most of their solutions involved purchasing some email marketing or enterprise email plan.

But they assure me the Exim mail daemon on my server isn’t adding the DKIM signature either.

They said the Authentication option was removed from my cPanel because it’s incompatible with shared hosting.

At this point I’m going to have to live with it, until I see if it’s really a problem for our members.

    Thanks

My host, GoDaddy, does use cPanel but there’s no Authentication menu in the Email section (see screen shot).

    Yes! This!!!

This the most frustrating thing about www.remarpro.com. When I have an issue with a plug-in I can’t limit my search to that plug-in’s threads.

Especially when the specific issue has some common thread, like embedding YouTube videos. The word ‘YouTube’ returns so many irrelevant results it’s almost useless to search and I’m better to open a new support request. That probably frustrates the dev’s having to answer the same question, but if I can’t find the answer then as far as I’m concerned it’s never been asked!!!

    C’mon www.remarpro.com, please please please!!!!

I was trying to put emoji into the body of the email (a sub-header with links to our Calendar, Schedules, and Programs) but when I save the newsletter all the emoji disappeared!?

Is this based on the font? Does the editor strip certain characters, like emoji? Does the database not support those characters?!

    Thanks,

    Bloddy ‘ell!

I just did some more testing; and the Categories become built-in (i.e.: can’t be deleted) when you change the Settings > Writing > Default Post Category!

Not sure if that’s what causes them to get all mixed up, but that only happened after I posted by email using Jetpack. So I don’t know if that comes from Polylang or Jetpack or something else.

I would still need the flexibility of all languages though for posts and/or categories. It would much better represent the reality of my use case.

    Thanks,

Well, I tried it again, and it happens when I post by email (using JetPack).

I have created the category Announcement in English only and set it as the default everywhere (in particular in the Settings > Writing > Default category).

Then I submit my post by email to the [email protected] address. This is a self-hosted blog but the Jetpack post-by-email solution goes through WordPress.com.

And then I end up with the situation we have here. Where my Announcement category is now hard-linked to the uncategorized-fr category and I can’t delete it.

You see the results in this gallery. The first picture is the After picture where the categories are messed up. The second picture is the original categories. Look at the info for descriptions (basically what I said here though).

I fixed the categories up but this time also created a French Annonce category to go with my English Announcement category. In my email submission I specified both categories ([category announcement, annonce]).

It seems to work. However there’s no way to update the previous posts to have both the English and the French categories. And I’m pretty sure if I ever edit a post through the web interface it will lose the French category (the post’s language is English – the default language).

I would really, really really need a bit more flexibility in assigning languages to posts and/or categories. Either the post should be “all languages” and I can assign a category from each language; or the category should be “all languages” and posts in that category will show-up no matter what language the user chooses.

Posting by email is the ideal, in-fact the only solution for these users; and posting a generic/universal message is all we need from them – they can’t post separately in each language. And if they forget or incorrectly put the category short-code in their email then I can’t fix it using the web interface.

I hope this provides you the information your require and you can appreciate my frustration in trying to get this to work. Thanks,

But the problem is my Announcements category was NOT the Uncategorized category, it’s a category I created later. I already had the built-in Uncategorized category (and it’s French translation Non Classe) that were un-deletable.

Now, mysteriously, the Announcements category has acquired a French translation (Uncategorized with the slug uncategorized-fr) and it has become un-deletable; while my Uncategorized categories have become normal, deletable categories.

There’s something very frustrating going on here!

This is related to another thread of mine.

Sorry, opened a new thread for an issue I ran into with this.

I would really like to see an “All languages” option as well, for posts and categories.

I have a site where we have some announcements on the front page and posts from people in the field that don’t merit separate posts for each language. They’re basically one or two liners so the post itself can contain the translations (if that’s even necessary).

Right now I just use the default language (English) without an equivalent category in the other language so for the presentation it always pulls in the English category’s posts regardless of which language the user is in.

But it doesn’t work when you dive down in the bowels of the site like the sitemap or archives or stuff like that.

    Thanks for the answers.

Featured and Vedettes are your english and french Uncategorized category that you have certainly renamed.

That’s certainly possible, probable in fact.

A category without language won’t be available in the categories metabox.

I have since created an Announcements category that is NOT translated. I write the post in English and assign it to the Announcements category (it’s available as a choice); then when I view the French page that hosts the view Content View pulls in the English posts from that Category. It works exactly the way I wanted.

I just wish I could get my original Categories back, so the base behaviour of WordPress is still there.
