OK, look, I went ahead and created a content.php file in my child theme, then copied the parent theme content.php information into it, after making the changes in this line…

<?php if ( is_search() || is_archive() || is_author() || is_tag() || is_home() ) : // Only display Excerpts ?>

it’s worked perfectly, but I’d really like to know whether doing it this way will cause any issues in the future?

Do I need to copy the entire content.php file across to my child theme and manipulate the relevant line there?

Can I add it to my function.php file, or should I create a new folder titled content.php?

You’ll have to forgive my lack of understanding, but would I be correct in thinking that I’m looking for this information only in the http links in the ‘stylesheet’ area of the ‘view source’? If so, I can see that everything, including an ie.css in green, has migrated across to my fixed front page.

Oh, and do I have to worry about not being able to see ‘editor-style-rtl.css,’ ‘editor-style.css,’ and ‘rtl.css,’ which are files that I can view when clicking on the twentytwelve ‘editor’ in the WP Dashboard itself?

Hey, many thanks, girlieworks, I was losing heart there!
Would I be correct in thinking, then, that if I can see no differences to my site when using my basic child theme, then all is well and I don’t need to enqueue any other of the css files?

I’ve now removed the code again. Any thoughts? I’d ideally like the site to display like this https://karma-free-life.com/?s=garlic (I’ll of course add featured tiles) with perhaps ‘read more’ links, once I get the basics sorted.

to my functions.php file (child) and got a parse error!
I basically just tabbed down a couple of spaces and copied it in!

I’ve taken it out, now, but really want to have excerpt showing on my ‘recently added,’ ‘archives,’ and ‘categories’ sections. I have a fixed front page on my theme Twenty-Twelve.

Anyone at all?

OK, just in case anybody else comes here looking for the same information…

I can’t believe I messed up with this one.

What you do is look for a ‘Widget’ Social Media plugin. Once you’ve activated it you can go to your widget page and drag it across to your side bar.
Soooooo simple!

Could anyone advise a better place to post this, as I’m feeling pretty desperate for info. on this? It seems such a simple thing to be able to achieve, but I’m lost for how.

Would I be better off just looking for a theme that better matched my needs, although I do like what I’ve done so far, and rather like the general layout of twenty twelve.
