I recommended 1and1 to a friend, it was great at first but some of the scripts did not work and had downtimes. 1and1 support team kept on telling him to upgrade, but he switched to ixwebhosting. But this was a year ago, they mite provide better service now.
I checked online and found 3 rating which said synhosting is great no downtime and fast support, but I see that this is a new hosting company so they will provide great server untill they grown thats when you have to see how they provide service. I would suggest you to give them a try, they look like a pretty good host.
