In reply to: "Connection lost…" problem in 3.9Very well, since my initial post
– a privately published post was successfully made, viewed, trashed, and permanently deleted without any “Saving…” issues or PHP calls
– a public draft post was successfully made and previewed. When I attempted to trash it, the “Saving…” issue presented itself, then a 404. Refreshing the 404 page showed the test draft successfully trashed, whereafter it was successfully deleted permanently. No PHP calls were recorded
– no plugins were altered
– the only variable changed was that the autosave interval in wp-config.php was increased from 120 seconds to 300 seconds. I may now double that as well to 600, just to be sure.

In reply to: [Quick Cache (Speed Without Compromise)] Dependent cached pages not updatingNot at all.
The pages of the users who make the posts in WordPress are so integral to the posts made in WordPress, at least from an external, practical standpoint, that it’s hard to conceive of software not handling them simultaneously, in this case, clearing post and user page of the poster caches simultaneously.
Until this is remedied, I would have to score this lack as a bit of a compromise.
Great! Thanks!

In reply to: [Quick Cache (Speed Without Compromise)] Dependent cached pages not updatingThis particular scenario could definitely use some more work in regards to being handled properly by Quick Cache. I’d love if you could open a feature request to “Clear author page cache when publishing new post”. If you can do that, I’ll add this to my TODO list.
Done and done.

In reply to: [Quick Cache (Speed Without Compromise)] Not workingNow the front page, at least, doesn’t seem to be being re-cached (no verifying text, slow load speed) after a new post and a comment over 30 minutes ago, leaving several questions.
– How fast is a page supposed to re-cached and available to be served as a cached page after it changes, eg, after a new post or comment is added?
– Do spam comments trigger the re-caching process?
– Are changed items wiped and re-cached individually?

In reply to: [Quick Cache (Speed Without Compromise)] Not workingNow we’re cooking! Page load time down to 1.5 sec from 5 even after brief rebuild time. Took a day for confirming QC text to show up on front page, and it doesn’t show between/until after rebuilds, I see now. Deactivating and reactivating seemed to be the ticket for me. Very happy so far.

In reply to: [Quick Cache (Speed Without Compromise)] Not workingNow, after deactivating and reactivating, cache material is beginning to accumulate in the cache directory, but there is still no confirming text on the home page and no discernible change in page loading time yet.
I reactivated Wordfence with the comment option disabled at 5:40PM CDT today, 10/6/13. The next comment to arrive at 7:05PM CDT was put into the moderation queue. Much as I like the entire scope and feel of this plugin, I had no choice but to deactivate and delete it. Since no one else has reported this behavior, it may be idiosyncratic to my blog. The only comments held during the periods Wordfence was active were those of registered users, and no other comments were held at any other times.
Right.
With Wordfence installed but deactivated since 3:20PM CDT yesterday, 10/5, I haven’t yet had any recurrences of comments being randomly held for moderation, an issue I’ve only experienced during the period I began using Wordfence over the last week, with the comment scanning option both enabled and disabled.
It might indeed not be Wordfence, just some weird idiosyncrasy caused by Wordfence being installed in my particular blog. I haven’t seen any other reports of this behavior after a cursory Google search, which is why I asked here.
What I’ll do is reactivate Wordfence again this afternoon and see if the issue returns.

In reply to: [Akismet Anti-spam: Spam Protection] Akismet randomly pending comments[RESOLVED]
Okay, with Wordfence reactivated and that comment scanning option disabled, the random comment moderating issue resumed.
Let’s see if it reappears even with Wordfence deactivated again. If it does, I’ll scratch this post as resolved.

In reply to: [Akismet Anti-spam: Spam Protection] Akismet randomly pending commentsMy bad. Turns out Akismet can’t be responsible for this behavior.
[RESOLVED]Thanks, Sam, an excellent improvement.
So all offenders are logged in the options tables of the individual sites rather than the cloud, their entries expiring according to the schedule above, with their expired transient entries of whatever duration cleaned out by BP as they respectively expire, after 8 hours, 48 hours, 14 days, etc. Is that correct?
Let me try to be a little more succinct by stating what I hope is happening.
Adding a 90,000 member botnet to an individual site plugin or .htaccess file is clearly a fool’s errand.
However, even if there is some redundancy on the front end of BP identifying offending IPs and adding them to its database and/or even if there is a high initial threshold of offense – as long as it is quantified over the entire BP subscriber base – if BP ends up permanently blacklisting these offenders rather than just cyclically catching and releasing them, then what would have been a fool’s errand for one person becomes intelligent long term insurance for the group when that errand is assumed by BP’s cloud.
The more the botnet attacks BP-protected sites, the fewer its effective numbers become and eventually all 90,000 are in the BP blacklist. I’m patient enough to wait for that outcome.
Personally, I really don’t care if someone whose computer has been incorporated into the botnet can no longer access my site, although, like any standing permanent blacklist some criteria from being removed from it, for example, once one’s computer has been cleaned, would obviously be advisable from a PR standpoint.
