As I remember It worked for me.

As I see the only thing you need is to create a file wmpl-config.xml in root plugin folder with this content inside:

<wpml-config>
    <custom-fields>
        <custom-field action="translate" style="line">_secondary_title</custom-field>
    </custom-fields>
</wpml-config>
