Wow that’s perfect! Thank you! I’ll have to turn this into a Plugin for others to use.

Sadly, this apparently did not resolve the issue. :/ It seemed to discourage some spam registration, slightly, but not entirely.

I’ve literally tried every Plugin I could find, I’ve had my server scanned for malware, and I’ve pruned absolutely everything possible and the only thing that makes a difference is whether or not “Anyone can register” is selected.

I believe the issue was that I wasn’t updating the *path* in the SQL file. I used WP Migrate DB to export the MySQL file and that worked.

Thanks for taking the time to reply yakusa, however those links don’t seem relevant to what dancriel was referring to. I was expecting information about a Filter not a re-iteration of the fact that JS can be minified and moved around.

If you’d like I can provide URL’s to a few other sites this is happening on, but I can say this happens on all sites I’ve installed this Plugin on so far (about 5).

I can understand why you raise the question but the issue at hand is that WordPress is not adequately preventing SPAM registrations.

Although I would expect a CAPTCHA Plugin to resolve the issue, which they do in the case of front end facing forms. However the issue persists which suggests to me that WordPress has a hidden mechanism to allow registrations that any of the popular CAPTCHA Plugins seem to be able to prevent.

No the issue did not resolve itself and persists as an issue on any site that I install it on. Seems to always be 4-6 images in the Theme directories that don’t get optimized no matter what the site or Theme.

My OptiPNG is 0.7.4 and it says it’s “ok”.

I’ve been doing a LOT of testing and research on this and to the best of my findings the server response time is most closely related to the number of CPU’s and amount of RAM. I tested on traditional Reseller server provided by Site5 which I believe is 1 CPU and 1Gb RAM and the best I could get was 250 Milliseconds. When I tested the same thing on DigitalOcean’s 512Mb with 1 CPU and a SSD I got about the same. Yet when I upgraded to 8Gb 4 CPU I got under that 200 milliseconds.

My advice is to have a SSD with 1Gb or RAM or More and 2 CPU’s. Or a 2Gb 2 CPU HDD.
