Just installed the plugin and had same issue and search for solution landed me here. Found solution so thought would share with you too.
Make sure that:
– Under Events > Settings > General > Event Submission Form that Allow anonymous event submissions is still set to yes
Some users report that “Guest Default User” should be set to only have user permissions of a contributor rather than an author
