kx1, I have been trying to fix this for the past 4 hours. thank you very much it worked.

Ok I’ve done everything you said, didn’t take as long as I had thought to fix it all.

Also – I logged into my wordpress admin using my mobile phone for the first time ever today, and that’s when the problems seemed to have occured. I have tried logging out everywhere but no fix, is this known bug?

If I reset the plugins folder, will that reset all the settings I have edited for those plugins?

No I want to have those as a very last resort, I am using a complicated setup and doing any of those will mess everything up and probably take a good couple of hours to fix, and my site gets a lot of traffic.

My homepage is static, it shows excepts from latest posts.

If I include the code

<?php if( function_exists( do_sociable() ) ){ do_sociable(); } ?>

The tweets will show information from the latest posts, and not the static homepage information.

I am having nothing but problems trying to get google to index my site on webmaster tools.

It says this in google webmaster tools under warnings for sitemap index:
Sitemap contains urls which are blocked by robots.txt.

Also getting the same warning for every page/post submitted via the sitemaps.

Here is my robots.txt file:

User-agent: *
Disallow: /wp-admin/
Disallow: /wp-includes/

Google crawl test says that it will crawl fine with the robot.txt settings yet I am getting error messages above.

WordPress is not set to private and nofollow/noindex is disabled/removed from every page.

I have absolute no idea what is wrong

Ok I’ll just submit the sitemap_index thanks.

The problem was that it contained 3 other sitemap files within it, but all hosted on the root domain, google will still be able to detect/crawl them right? (as they are not hosted in a sitemap_index folder).

I hope i’m making sense here…
