In reply to: import free wordpress to own wordpressThis is good information, and I hadn’t gotten along far enough under XAMPP that it will be a real big deal cutting and pasting or recreating posts, pages, links and categories into my new site on Bluehost. I think this could be a much bigger problem for somebody who has been running for a while on .COM and now has no way to hang onto archives. Thanks for the comments.

In reply to: import free wordpress to own wordpresspodz, I am a newbie. I put my WP site together on my desktop under Xampp, and I am now hosted by Bluehost. I got my theme on the server just fine. How can I import my links, pages, categories and posts? Thanks

In reply to: Personal header — I’ve tried, I have!I realized since my last post that I was not actually seeing the updated page after I made changes, which is why it seemed like nothing was working. I needed to go Cntl-F5 to clear the browser cache before I could see a fresh page. All better now.

In reply to: “view site” option in dashboardThat did it! Many many thanks! Ctrl-F5 also works with Netscape, BTW.

In reply to: Personal header — I’ve tried, I have!I’m not happy with how much time I have wasted trying to do something that is supposed to be simple. I took vkaryl’s advice and chose a template (Husna) other than the default so that I could finally get my own image into the header after wasting my entire morning. The code in the Husna stylesheet is MUCH simpler and not garbaged up with a bunch of misleading comments. It was a breeze changing the name of the jpg in the image folder for the new template – which only occurs once in one style sheet (thankyou). Yes – I did remember to move my image into that folder.
I used the text editor that ships with WP, and once I made the change and saved, I clicked on the <view page> link in the header of my admin app. Guess what! NOTHING IS DIFFERENT…
I have been chasing quotation marks, Kubricks, and style sheets all day and nothing I have done has worked, best I can tell. Now I have somebody else’s header art on my page (which is better than Kubrick) but for crying out loud! Why is all of this so difficult! I chose WP over MT to try to avoid just this kind of experience.

In reply to: Personal header — I’ve tried, I have! Thanks, Jedd. I’m happy for you. I “uncommented” the #headerimage line, and edited header_img.php per your tip. Problem is, I’ve still not been able to get my personalheader.jpg to replace kubrickheader.jpg. Did you try the vkaryl’s zip fix?

In reply to: inserting an image into a headerOops. The file to replace is “kubrickheader.jpg” versus the several other kubricks in the header.php. There is another thread on this topic running. This is a problem with the new default template.

In reply to: inserting an image into a headerAcording to the documentation, the name of your image file replaces the “kubrickbgcolor.jpg” entry in the line refernced above in header.php. You can make the edit in the “Edit Themes” subtab. You will have to upload your image file to the same directory where you find “kubrickbgcolor.jpg” so that WP can find it to insert.
Having said all that – and I hope it works for you – it isn’t working for me! Possibly this is because I’m putting my site together on my desktop instead of constructing it on a server. If you get this to work, please post about it.
