I don’t believe this plugin can access images from private posts and display them on a public page.

The thumbnails are generated automatically if you upload and insert them into your post. Only images you upload (i.e. that are in your uploads folder) can be made into thumbnails, so no hotlinking images and expecting them to make a thumbnail. Other than that, make sure the thumb-cache folder is in the right spot, make sure permissions are something like 777.

It works best outside the loop, but I have had reports that it works within the loop as well. Might be specific to WordPress versions.

The image must actually be uploaded and inserted into the post itself in order for the thumbnail to be generated and usable. There is no way to do it with a custom field or have it show without putting the image itself in the post.

Where are your images hosted? Are you importing/uploading them into the post or linking to them from another page/place?

Also, make sure you have the thumbnail directory created where it should be and the permissions on that folder set correctly.
