Well the problem was that I installed this plug-in, but I did not install a SMTP plug-in first to configure the SMTP options.

I used WP-MAIL-SMTP and then set it up for Go Daddy’s SMTP relay and it went through just fine.

After that was done I was able to send emails from the Register Plus Redux plug-in.

I had issues with NextGen Gallery as well and got feed up trying to solve it. I switched and went to Grand Flash Album Gallery and it is simple.

There is no more having to assign a page to each gallery or album, which is simply a maintenance nightmare.

The interface is very easy to use and met my needs well.

I found the answer, but it could be my theme which is stopping the Navigation Menu Role Scoper permissions from working or it is broken.

To remove the pages from the Pages sidebar to the general public:
Part 1. Roles > Pages > Check all groups > Check the Page Reader Role on all pages to be hidden from the general public > Click update
(this just adds the groups to the pages nothing else)

Part 2. Restrictions > Pages > Check the Page Reader Role on all pages to be hidden from the general public > Click update
(this no applies a restriction so that the groups in step 1 are the only ones allowed to read the pages)

The same process is for the posts and categories. This is apparently how Role Scoper is supposed to work and it took a while for this to click (my mental issues I guess).

The funny thing is that I use the Unite theme and when trying to apply the Navigation Menu groups (like part 1.) and the restrictions (like part 2.) the opposite result occurred. The general public could view all Navigation Menus and the subscriber or higher roles could not see the Navigation Menus.

That was mind boggling and made me start all over as I thought I was totally wrong on the use of Role Scoper.

I hope this helps a novice user in the future.

Thank you for the replies and I created this post early this morning to discuss my issue. I believe I found the root cause, but need to test some more today.

I will ignore the .htaccess file as it has nothing to me apparently.

I am not calling this solved as of yet until I do some more testing.

Well WP-SpamFree was a major cause of the problem when I deactivated the plugin I was able to add comments to the general public forum. I was also able to add comments to an internal post when logged in.

There should be a Plug-Ins Police Plug-In that hunts down the conflicting Plug-Ins and go ape sh!t when things are goofy.

I am new user of two days and I will say that Role Scoper appears to rather complex for me and I have not found a good guide to use so far. The problem is simply me as I do not have the experience.

I was looking for another issue solution and came across this one. I am running 1.3.31 and when I check the file structure I did not see this file located in the /wp-content/cache folder. I only have the folder rs in that directory.

In another post 6 months ago someone posted that they received a 500 server error after they updated, although unrelated, it steered me here in another search.

So am I missing this .htaccess file or is it in one of the subfolders?

The reason I was looking for a solution was that my problem is that unless I am logged in as an admin I can not post any comments to my posts whether I am logged in or not.

I have one category and post exposed to the general public all of the others are hidden. This is to allow the general public to add comments and cause interaction between the membership.

I will create another post for that issue, but if you could update me on the .htaccess file that would be stellar.

I am having the same problem with my site, but I am seeing different results based on browser usage.

IE 8 (not sure about other versions) seems to show this problem when clicking on the gallery and the individual images are shown. When you click on one image that window then only shows that image with no navigation options and you have to use the browser back option.

Shown here then select a section such as General Meetings. Then choose a gallery and click an image.

When using Firefox and Safari I do not see this issue as the images work as intended.

I am very new to Word Press and NextGen Gallery, so I have followed other’s advice by updating the header and footer with the code shown in other forums.

This was working for me last night before I have made numerous site changes.

    Any ideas?
