Thank you for your help.
It does hide the placeholders in the theme, but unfortunately now does not show any images for categories or subcategories at all.
Any other ideas?
I appreciate your help with this.

No problem now, resolved by increasing memory in my database.

Have gone to php 7.0 and the warnings have dissapeared.

It’s not an issue yet, but it is taking a very long time to process the 4500 products, 86% after 15mins, it used to be done in less than 5mins.

I changed to php 7.1 and it kind of works, but has this at the top of the screen in the attribute mapping screen:

No error message, just a blank white screen when attribute screen is loading, then it stops loading and stays on the blank screen.

Will try the upgrade route in the mean time.

No they are not showing in the dropdown.
Thank you anyway, maybe an issue with how they were created via a CSV import.
