It is now the 9th of April. As you can see from the above, I tried everythsince and my sidebar is still off and the fatal error still stick on it instead.

am I asking the wrong people here? If so, who should I rather ask for help?

    I would appreciate some input

    Thanks

    Thanks Serge,

    I will try that.

    Hi there,

go to admin page it appears when you click “edit” on any page or when you open WP), go to settings on the left click > reading – and there (not the most obvious place!!) you will find a choice of making your home page static (have whatever you want to say on a homepage permanently visible) or let the latest post appear on it.

If you chose the post, but want to have a “homepage” as well, you can alway setup a new page on which you put the stuff that other people put on the homepage.

This seems to be the only option I have found.

    hope it helps

    Hi,

there is a plugin called ” wordpress ad widget ” – updated today, with high rating, and youtube demo, which looks very promissing for waht you want to do.

I have not tried it, because my sidebar got lost when upgrading to WP 3.5.1.

    Good luck with the plugin

    Hi there,
I seem to have the same problem since I updated to WP 3.5.1.

I found a comment on admin in “appearance”>editor> SCOLL DOWN TO IMAGES where it says something about resizing photos. But I could not explain to you what exactly that means for our problem.

I am not using a child theme.

    thanks

yeah!! how did you do it?

could you share this? with instructions as clear as possible as I am not a ICT wizz.

    thanks

    Rose

    HI Michael,

after a hick-up due to downloading WP 3.5.1. People talk about backups, but I don’t know where mine is, if there is one.
I thought it might be a good idea to sort out a backup of my page myself.
Your plugin sounds good, but it does not down load and the advice you give to sort it out makes not sense to me as I am only a humble (and struggling) user, not a programmer.

My host is LCN (UK) – OI have made my site myself. (www.qimoving.co.uk)

Do I just give up or is there hope that someone can explain to me what to do in a way that I can follow?

    Thanks
    Rose

    1. yes, I updated it to the most recent version, as suggested.
    2. the error warning is as follows – on ALL pages including the contact page:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function dynamic_sidebar() in /www/sites/3b6/8d1/www.qimoving.co.uk/web/wp-content/themes/twentyten/sidebar.php on line 20

    3. On the sidebar, which was replaced by the error notice, there were two sticky links to other pages on my site.

    4. I read your trouble shooting link and deactivated ALL the plugins – with to no effect to the error notice. I have now activated the one for the contact page to be reachable.

    5. I don’t know what mu-plugins are and I don’t know what or where browser caches are

    6. I have had a look at the themes:

A: When I go to edit my themes, it says beneeth 2011, which I think I have:

“There is a new version of Twenty Eleven available. View version 1.5 details or update now.”

This comes with a warning that customised items may be lost, so I did not, but looked at the preview

The Preview changes the welcome page unrecognisably, leaves out the original error in the side bar and brings up instead this one at the bottom of the page the following:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function is_active_sidebar() in
    /www/sites/3b6/8d1/www.qimoving.co.uk/web/wp-content/themes/twentyeleven/sidebar-footer.php on line 17

All other pages are not affected by the preview and still show the old layout with error as first quoted.

B: Preview for 2012 theme brings up this warning:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function is_active_sidebar()
    in /www/sites/3b6/8d1/www.qimoving.co.uk/web/wp-content/themes/twentytwelve/functions.php on line 421

C: Theme 2010 will not load a preview at all – although it is quoted in the error message and I believe that it was use.

    7. Playing with the page attributes:

With the default setting, the error comes up in the sidebar with the wording first quoted.
But with the setting One column / not sidebar, a different error wording comes up at the bottom of the pages saying: Fatal error: Call to undefined function is_active_sidebar() in /www/sites/3b6/8d1/www.qimoving.co.uk/web/wp-content/themes/twentyten/sidebar-footer.php on line 17

I had some free help with setting up the appearance of the site (the picture banner and some other things) so I am not in the know how it was done. That support is now not available to me, sadly. So I cannot help you – or myself- here.

What I have written up so far, is the best I could do, I am afraid. Most of the things suggested to do, I don’t understand. Maybe you have a bright idea.

    Thanks

    Rose
