FWIW, I resolved it simply by adding a lookup table in Excel and converting them.

Copy > Paste Special (just values) on a new sheet to retain the state codes without the formulas.

He’s asking for characters, but you’re saying the restriction you can set is on words.

I need characters. I know I can jQuery the maxlength attribute but it’d be real nice to have that UI counter for characters like you do words.
