I didn’t solve the problem but basically side-stepped it by installing the CKEditor which is working beautifully.

Thank you I will try these ideas. I am using Twenty Eleven so I will try 2 and 3 first and see where that gets me. Its pretty weird. Never done this in the 5+ years I have used WordPress for this site.

Never mind. It appeared to be a problem with the browser (IE8). Hitting F5 refreshed everything and now all options are visible.

I updated Jetpack and once again the stats are not working. This happened with the last Jetpack update as well.

Works for me as well.

I have the exact same problem. Stats are gone and I cannot access them. Did anybody at Automattic test this with non-Wordpress.com sites?

It looks like I am getting more traffic than I thought based on the webstats from my webhost but I can’t imagine that I need to get a dedicated server based on the traffic I am seeing (an average of 7000 pageviews a day).

Every day there is a new YouTube video on the site but that is using the YouTube embedded code. I had kind of assumed that because it was stored on YouTubes servers it shouldn’t cause an issue.

All plugins except for WP Super Cache and Askimet have been disabled.

Believe it or not after the changes made above my WP installation is still showing excess usage:

Does anybody have any idea what I can do? I may have to shut the site down at this rate if I can’t figure out why my WP install is hogging so much CPU time. I am not a developer or an advanced adminstrator so any help would be appreciated!

Yep disabling Gears in Firefox did it for me.
Phew!

Same problem with Firefox and Internet Explorer! In Firefox I can post but not insert images and it is brutally slow. In IE it crashes when I try to create a new post!

This is supposed to be fixed in version 8.7

I have the same problem. This is supposed to be fixed in version 8.7 according to the MightySeek forums. Not sure if it has been released yet but this is a problem that has festered for awhile.
