I have just installed this plugin and find it hard to believe that something similar does not come as part of WP. Anywho, I have yet to write a post to see for myself but I see from previous comments here that there is/was an issue with a time delay from the post being posted to the email notification being sent. Does anyone have any news on this with using WP 2.05? Someone mentioned a fix for it on page 2, is that a good fix?

    Regards

search for comment quicktags 1.9. but i don’t think this version works with the lastest version of WP and I have been too busy to find an up to date version if there is one. This something that I would to have as well.

I should mention that I am running no plugins.

Yeah I did but I admit that I am not sure what orphan or invalid records are. I will try searching now. If you or anyone can give those two tables a look and see if you can spot anything that would be great. here are the jpg for them:

    Thanks for your reply manstraw.

summary.php is a short version of the index.php which just has the 5 most recent posts as excerpts, ie summary. It needs sweeking but is the same as the index.php which works so summary.php should work.

summary.php does not work even when executed in the browser. just changing the name from index.php to something else (summary.php in this case) gives the errors.

the bit of code that opens files and reads them (shown above) seems to be working fine – at least with files that have no WP code.

Unless anyone has a clever idea or can suggest something I will have to resort to accessing the WP database directly.

Rereading what I wrote I do not think I was clear. So what I would like is

    Person comments on a post.
If first time a ‘awaiting moderation’ message is shown to all users.

If not first time (and a previous comment was approved) then comment is added immediately.

Also, when a person who has commented before returns all they need to fill out is the comment box and not the name and email and url box.

Viper007Bond your favourite car is a Bugatti Veyron. Am I right?!

    Viper007Bond, thanks.

your suggestion seems to have cleared up the issue. earlier i posted a comment under a different name to test the site. when i refreshed the site after adding your line of code the test comment was shown as awaiting moderation (now deleted).

i have a few questions though.

    1. where can i find the code that does what you said in your post above in the default theme 1.5 (eg head.php or..)

    2. It seems strange to me that your code relies on checking the IP address and not, say, a cookie or just leaving the comment in the database and using the comment_status field. What would happen if the user logs in later, pressumably under a new IP address? And how would other users see it?

    3. Also – is a person commenting for a second or more time and not getting their details shown related to this issue i am having? When i started it would say login, or logout.

    4. Is there somewhere, that i have missed, in the document ation, that i can read about this?

    Viper007Bond – thanks again

    Just to clarify:
    under Options >> General
Anyone can register – not ticked
Users must be registered and logged in to comment – not ticked

    under Options >> Disscusions
everything is ticked except for “An administrator must approve the comment (regardless of any matches below)”

But I think I must have made the error of not linking to some code some where up the ‘code tree’ like in the head. I dont link to the head. what am i missing? hmmm

Hey, could you help on this. I am trying to do exactly the same thing as gaebe. I have followed the instructions and when i go to “Operations” tab and change the value in the auto_increment field and click ‘go’ it says:

    SQL query:
    ALTER TABLE wp_posts PACK_KEYS =1 CHECKSUM =1 DELAY_KEY_WRITE =1 AUTO_INCREMENT =18

the field stays as it was. I tested by publishing a new post to see if the would be 1 or 18. it was 18.

i only have one post – deleted the rest and am now ready to start blogging.

    https://blog.rieder.co.uk – a theme called fufu

Anyway, what could i be doing wrong? Any ideas?

    Rob

    Thanks

I found this topic very useful. ??
