In reply to: Domain Mapping for Multisite with Subfolder StructureTried to add at the beginning that the Plugin I use is “WordPress MU Domain Mapping” but the forum bugs out and doesn’t let me edit my post.
Ok I found the solution, in case anyone has the same problems:
1. No, if you use subfolders instead of subdomains you don’t need to create the wildcard.
2. On the hosts side you have to Park the Domain, not add it as Addon Domain. If your host uses cPanel there should be a Domain Parking option as shown here.

In reply to: Domain mapping with multisiteWhen a topic is marked ‘resolved’ generally we don’t pay any attention to it
Well I’m glad I asked because I wouldn’t have heard of your formidable ebook otherwise!
it’s pay what you will
Done.
Otto’s directions really aren’t that out of date, though.
Might seem trivial to someone who already understands the process but enough has changed to confuse a newcomer.

In reply to: Domain mapping with multisiteThe standard settings (checkmarks) seem to directly oppose most recommendations I find online.
Does the 5th option has any effect if each domain is mapped to a separate blog?
5. Disable primary domain check. Sites will not redirect to one domain name. May cause duplicate content issues.
I want them to be like independent websites, as if they were hosted on separate servers, no duplicate content but I might refer to one on the other.
Thanks a lot!

In reply to: Domain mapping with multisiteI’m trying to set up a multisite with separate blogs and each with a different domain and can relate to spiffking03’s bleeding eyes.
Is there a simple step by step tutorial somewhere that demonstrates how to do it with the current version of WP and the Plug-In? Similar to this but not outdated. And maybe with sample text filled in.
Hint: Write a blog post about this with screenshots and get massive traffic.
Thanks a lot for your help!
Thank you Ipstenu, so an FTP flat file backup would include all the images and in combination with a DB backup I could restore the entire site on another host regardless of whether they also use cPanel?
My hosting service told me if I do a cPanel backup, that would include all the files (images) and database.
Is that a good format for archiving and restoring from, maybe on another webhost, or is another format better?
Thank you.

In reply to: [Login Dongle] [Plugin: Login Dongle] Clever pluginI haven’t installed this Plug-In yet. Does it work with WP Multisites? If so, how exactly? Do I have to install it on each Blog? Can I also use it for the network account?
Andrea Ercolino, I can give you a German translation if you tell me how to or provide a list with all the text/terms that need to be translated.
I meant “its Blogs including Files”.
1&2) Got it! Thank you!
3) How do you get past the FTP Screen when trying to update locally? I’ll try this method:
https://soderlind.no/archives/2011/08/26/running-wordpress-locally-on-mac-os-x-lion/And #3 how do you update your WP installs offline? I assume auto-update is not possible.
Thanks for your patience, I got two more questions, would be great to get a comment:
1.) What’s the point of the htdocs folder in the MAMP Application folder and why do most tutorials place the wordpress folders in there instead of outside the Applications folder?
2.) For example in this video the user generates a symbolic link to the folder, (why) is that necessary? Doesn’t changing the Apache location solve that?
How To Install MAMP & WordPress on OS X (MAG 22)
[Jumps to correct time]This video shows the whole installation with separate database for each WordPress install:
That was very helpful, thanks to both of you!
Great, that’s how I did it for a single blog too!
And is there any benefit for this setup of multiple blogs in using MAMP Pro over MAMP? Some users have suggested this but I didn’t really get what the advantage was.
Thanks a lot for your help!
