In reply to: [Amazon Associates Link Builder] Plugin not working at allI have seen this message intermittently when I try to search for items to add into a post or page but never on a published page.
It’s annoying considering it’s the Amazon published plugin and it doesn’t behave with the Amazon site itself!!
Waiting a second or two and then searching again works for me when writing a post but if this is happening on a published post it will not look professional and reduce the stickiness and return rate of visitors.
Would be interested to see what the issue and fix is.

In reply to: [Amazon Associates Link Builder] Main Product Image is just a grey boxThanks. I think mine may be a cache problem as the text from Amazon shows but not the image. Thanks anyway. Glad you fixed it.
Hi Sherry, no I’m not so should be OK

In reply to: [Amazon Associates Link Builder] Main Product Image is just a grey boxHi Sherry, Glad you fixed it. I tested my Geo Targeting ads this weekend as planned and it seems to be working – but now I notice images don’t always show! Not a grey box, just the image missing icon but could be the same thing.
What was the fix for your issue? I might try it and see if it fixes my issue too.
Thanks in advance, David
@sherrywp the 777 is a UNIX operating system thing so they may have set it to 755 but it works so all good.
I plan to do some testing over the weekend on geotargeting but testing it when you can’t change countries is a challenge. I found a site https://www.geoscreenshot.com which might help once I set up the Ads correctly for my US and UK Associate IDs
Hope you solve the image issue. I had a look at your site and all images show for me but ypu may have a test page not published with the issue. Is it Amazon images you have issues with or those added to your own WP instance?
I agree @sherrywp it’s frustrating that for such a large organisation Amazon assistance is lacking.
All I did was download the file that @uttrichp linked to, extracted it on my computer and the used a free ftp tool to upload it to the correct directory on my site.
I then checked it and the directory it was in had permissions set to 777.
That made the error message go away but I do wonder how I can confirm it is installed and functioning correctly with Geolocation.
I am concerned the installation didn’t work correctly due to this error and the absence of any other error messages isn’t enough.
Thanks @uttrichp – that worked for me too I can now move forward.
You’re not the only one – I get exactly the same message:
“ERROR – The file used to fetch country details to enable geo-targetted links doesn’t have read permissions. Please give recursive read/write permissons to:/home/davidr32/public_html/aic/wp-content/uploads/amazon-associates-link-builder/GeoLite2-Country.mmdb. In case you are still facing the issue, please change download folder in Site Wide Settings section on this page.”
I have given “777” recursively to all folders below “uploads” and also created a separate “amazon” folder at domain root level with “777” and still get the message.
When I change the downloads folder to the folder I created at root level it seems to just ignore it and give the same message as above.
Resolution would be appreciated
David
