Yes, that worked much better (see the results at https://box22.bluehost.com/~richard2/wordpress/2005/06/04/jonah-my-knight-in-training/ . Thanks for the suggestion.

Next question: isn’t there some way to automate this so you don’t have to manually configure your code ea. time you upload an image for which you want both a thumb & full size image (which is often the configuration I want when I upload images).

Is there a plug in that might help do this? I moved here fr. TP & their image upload feature allowed for automation of the image upload code so you could create yr. own default settings that translated into the corresponding code.

    I’m still confused.

I want to make clear that I don’t only want to display a thumbnail of the image. I want to display a thumbnail which also links to the full sized image & allows it to display in a pop up window–how do I do this?

Also, for some reason yr. code trailed off outside the right hand margin so I couldn’t see the critical portion of it with the ‘thumb.’

OK, I finally figured it out.

For some reason, when you download the ‘almost spring’ zip file & then unzip it & upload it to the server (at least this happened when I did it), instead of the files being within the ‘almost spring’ folder…there is an ‘almost spring’ SUBfolder & the files are within the subfolder.

WP just didn’t like the subfolder. Once I moved the files out of the subfolder & placed them in the folder, then everything cleared up.

This seems like a weird way to set up your download files. Is this something I should report to the theme author & WP (I assume every ‘a s’ download would place the files in this configuration)? Or was this something that happened because of the way I’m set up?

Here are the files in the almost spring folder as downloaded fr. the WP site:

    images folder
    404.php
    comments.php
    footer.php
    header.php
    index.php
    page.php
    searchform.php
    sidebar.php
    single.php
    style.css

    Sure did.

“Did you check that the style.css file is there?”

    Yup, it’s there all right.

“Using your ftp client put into your /wp-content/themes folder.”

I did precisely that. The theme folder is in the proper place. But WP is claiming no stylesheet is installed.

THanks all for providing those links. I knew about all of them & have visited them all (but not yet examined all the themes). I was hoping to get some individual recommendations. Guess I’ll just go out there & look through every one to find the right one for me.

“You can create a subdomain and install it there.”

Do you mean a subdomain of bluehost or a subdomain of my own domain, richardsilverstein.com? If you mean the latter, if this domain is now pointing at my Typepad blog how can you point a subdomain to a different host (bluehost/WP)?

    Thread Starter richards1052

    (@richards1052)

With my webhost’s help I succeeded in getting into my WP admin panel. I changed the URLs listed there from my domain name to my bluehost url (see below).

I again tried importing the import.txt file & nothing happens. Still no posts. There’s still something wrong & I don’t know what it is.

    https://box22.bluehost.com/~richard2/

Podz: I don’t think the import itself or the import.txt file is my problem. I’ve succeeded in importing the file into my WP installation. My problem is that I have a domain name now pointing to my other blog at Typepad. And I’ve set up my webhost acct. using that domain name (since once my WP site is up & running I will point my domain back to my WP blog) which has hard-wired that URL into my WP installation.

But since the domain isn’t pointing now to the WP site, I have no access to the admin panel in WP & can’t do anything with my WP site.

What I need is to find a way to get WP to accept the current URL for my blog: https://70.96.188.22/~richard2/ . But I also need a way to switch that URL back to my domain name when I’m ready to switch fr. Typepapd to WP.

If I point my domain away fr. my TP blog & to my new WP blog then essentially my current blog will be displaying to the public in a messed up way until I get all the bugs ironed out. I’d prefer not to do this unless I have to (& I guess I may have to).

BTW, thanks for giving it your all in trying to help me. I appreciate that.

I just removed the WP installation using fantastico. But I can’t install a new one because the only domain name that bluehost is allowing me to use is the domain name to which my blog is currently pointing. If I use that then I end up the same place I was earlier.

What a mess. I’ll have to wait till tomorrow to unravel this.

It pays to get a webhost with 24/7 support (which bluehost doesn’t have–UGH!).

    Thread Starter richards1052

    (@richards1052)

It’s prob. easier just to point my domain to WP & away from my Typepad blog & be done with all this complication.

I just wish bluehost.com had been more aware of the complications they caused. I was very explicit when I registered w. them earlier today concerning what I was trying to do (e.g. have my wp blog eventually point to my domain but wanting to wait to do this until that blog was ready for prime time) & I don’t think they really listened to help me avoid this mess.

    Thread Starter richards1052

    (@richards1052)

    Yes.

BTW, I just uploaded the options-general.php file from my desktop to the webserver via ftp & overwrote the same file there. I went back to the admin panel & refreshed. The options screen still won’t open.

    Thread Starter richards1052

    (@richards1052)

Omigod, I don’t know how to do any of this, but I’m gonna try…

I had my WP auto-installed through my webhost, Bluehost. So I don’t think I have anything on my pc.

On 2nd thought, I think I may’ve downloaded a WP install to my desktop last wk. before I decided to do the auto-install through the webhost. But I haven’t used it, opened it or installed it.

Will it still work if I replace the options-general.php file on the server with the one in the wp folder on my desktop?

Or would it just be easier to point my Typepad domain name to my wp blog & be done with these complications? This would mean however, that my blog will essentially be down until I get the wp version up & running.
