Thanks. The margin setting was just for the left or right margin for the first and third paragraphs. But…I tried changing the group to a row and fiddled with some other problems and the unwanted padding disappeared as mysteriously as it appeared. I never know with stuff like this whether it is operator error, hardware malfunction or a software bug or feature.

When I made the header just a group on the home page rather than using a template part, the sticky setting works as expected.

My header is a template part and I can see that it includes sticky in its position: <!– wp:group {“style”:[“position”:{“type”: sticky, “top”: “0px”}}

I am wondering if making a template part sticky does not make all instances of it sticky? When the part is included in the home page there is no CSS code about position.

Thanks. I think my problem went away. I either stumbled onto a setting that made the font setting global or something else just kicked in. I get so confused trying to work my way through the maze of settings that I often can’t remember exactly what I just did.

Thanks. I think block themes are going to give me what I want. I just need to learn how to work with them. I started playing around with Gesso and so far have managed to produce a website with nothing in it except a band of color at the top! I’ll read tutorials and stick with it.

Thanks. Maybe the beginner’s guide will help. The Anatomy of a Theme is a nice summary of what is under the hood, but it does not really explain why things happen when I attempt to edit things using the WP Admin dashboard options rather than editing code. In other words how do I know why one theme displays comments and another does not even though the settings I can see are the same.
