In reply to: trying to export the WP database with limited info…Hi Esmi,
Yeah, I’m not sure if the current host offers phpMyAdmin access.
It sounds like I will probably need to contact the current host, unless someone has another idea of how to access it.
Thanks,

In reply to: What do they call it when…I think that you are talking about a FLUID layout VERSUS a FIXED layout. Fluid layouts are when the elements on a webpage adjust to the size of the screen that it is being viewed on… by using percentages for the size of different elements on the page.
I’m no expert, but that is how I would explain it.
And then FIXED WIDTH layouts, are exactly that. It uses FIXED (Set) dimensions for the elements on the page, and their sizes do not change. It’s a safer bet I think in a lot of cases, although I use both.

In reply to: need to change the url for my WP siteI probably should mention for future searchers…. that I am having to manually go into my pages and modify the urls for the images on my website.
When I changed the url and home settings in phpMyAdmin, it did not do anything to update the image urls.
Just thought I would mention that, so I wasn’t leaving a false happy ending to the thread. Everything else seems to be working just fine though, after changing just the home and url settings in phpMyAdmin.
Woohoo!

In reply to: need to change the url for my WP siteMan, I can’t thank you enough Tim. You saved my ass.
When I went to look at the permalink setup in the dashboard… I saw that I had accidentally left a space at the end of my home url, when I edited it through phpMyAdmin. So that is why my links were not working.
Again, I can’t thank you enough. I was freaking out over solving this.
Thank you thank you thank you!!!!!! for taking the time to help me!!!!!

In reply to: need to change the url for my WP siteThanks Tim.
Ok, so I just did that (changed the home and url settings in the database), and the site still comes up…. but now the main navigation is not working.
When I hover over a link on the main navigation, it does not allow me to click on the links. Is there something I need to change in regards to the main navigation now?
It seems to have updated the other pages ok, when I looked briefly.
Thanks for responding Tim. Hopefully I can work this out soon.

In reply to: need to change the url for my WP siteOk, I’ll go reread it. THX,
but what if I do want to use the database method?….That seems easy enough. Change two settings within phpMyAdmin.
I would prefer that…
But I’ll reread it…

In reply to: need to change the url for my WP siteYou mean I’ll be fine by just changing the url and home settings in phpMyAdmin???? The site is already fully developed, so I don’t want any broken links after changing these settings.
And I can’t have it crash, as it is for a client.
[No bumping, thank you.]

In reply to: need to change the url for my WP siteThanks Tim. I have set up that folder as the root on that domain.
All I need to do is change the url and home, and not have the whole site crash in the process. That’s what I’m trying to figure out.

In reply to: need to change the url for my WP siteThanks esmi.
So according to that link…
If I go into change the home and url settings in phpMyAdmin, will that change everything for my whole site.
Or do I need to do something in addition to changing those settings in the database???

Thanks man. I appreciate it.
I’m not totally sure how to use the interconnect/it search and replace tool…. but I will follow that link and read up on it.
Other than that, I think it all makes pretty good sense to me.
Very cool, much appreciated.

In reply to: Trying to move WP site to new domain / hosting companyNO I did not do those things. Perhaps that is where it all went wrong.
I have started over with a clean install of WP on Network Solutions, and I’m just going to create it all again… and plug in the info from all of the pages.
I’m basically starting over but using my old info. I was just getting really frustrated and I felt like I had no other options, since I am doing this for a client who wants it ASAP… of course, like some do.
But I just need to learn the ins and outs of WP better, so I understand it conceptually… I’m somewhat lost at this point… but it’ll be okay. Thank you for the help and tips.
Hopefully my clean start works out well. I really appreciate it.

In reply to: Trying to move WP site to new domain / hosting companyI did change domain names.
So could that be causing the problem?
Where can I modify settings for the new domain name?
