In reply to: Sexy Bookmarks and Like Button Turn Hyphens and Quotes to ASCII TextUPDATE:
I’ve discovered that those blogs I’ve installed within the last year or less, work find with both the LIKE button plugin and Sexy Bookmarks Plugin when translating my WordPress Blog Titles to be shared on Facebook.
It seems to me that the blogs having the issues of inserting random characters (ASCII) in place of hyphens, quotation marks, apostrophes, etc. are the older blogs.
Here is the link to the same video who demonstrates my dilemma – which has NOT been fixed yet!

In reply to: 2.8 upgrade killed visual editorI’m glad I was able to help. Sorry, I was not back before this.
I will say (and I hope to not put a jinx on it), but the auto-upgrades from within WordPress now seem to work much better.

@SayItWithEcards on TwitterA FURTHER UPDATE…
I contacted MyLiveSignature.com and informed them of the issues I was having between their plugin and WP 2.8.1
They promptly wrote back and told me they did not create the plugin, but WOULD contact the person who did to see if he was willing to update it.
I am impressed with MyLiveSignature.com ~ Not only their plugin, but their quick response time in getting back to me the few times I contacted them via email. Their response time was within hours. Since I was away from the computer myself for a few hours, I am not sure when they sent the email exactly, but when I returned it was “waiting for me!”
I am wondering IF the prior version of MyLiveSignature will work with WP 2.8.1. I think I’ll give it a try. It can’t hurt anything. It was the NEW version that I am having trouble with, so I did not give the prior one a try as I was immediately greeted with the opportunity to “auto” update it in the WP Plugin screen.
Would still love your feedback, help and/or suggestions.
Thanks.

https://www.WhyEcards.comFURTHER UPDATE
It seems the problem stems from the Live Signature plugin.
I RE-activated Askimet and the content remained.
I RE-activated Live Signature and the content DISappeared again.
I am wondering if I remove the NEW Live Signature and use the OLD one – earlier version – if it will work.
Does anyone know of another WordPress Plugin that will produce a signature?
Hope you can help. Thanks so much for reading.

https://www.WhyEcards.comUPDATE:
Someone on Twitter suggested that I DE-Activate the Plugins and see if my content came back.
I DID DE-Activate the two plugins (Askimet and Live Signature) and ALL the content is back on the blog’s homepage.
Can anyone help and tell me what I do now?
Did anyone have this issue?
Thanks in advance.

In reply to: WordPress 2.8 “The plugin does not have a valid header.”My plugins look fine within the the plugin listing in the WP8.0 Dashboard, but am getting tons fo spam since the upgrade.
Yes… the Askimet seems to be activated, but not working well.
I am wondering if the rules have changed. I did manually upgrade to the new version of Askimet as was requested of me. Is that not working too?
What a mess!
Thanks in advance.

I’ll try that.
I’m getting tons of spam since I upgraded to 2.8 on Wednesday. It’s like the spam filter is not there!

In reply to: TinyMC Broken in 2.8 UpgradeOk, I got it to work… Here is what I did…
In the TinyMCE folder — I DELETED… ALL… “The Files!” NOT folders.
I uploaded ALL the files (NOT FOLDERS) from the WordPress 2.8 – I DOWNLOADED from the “www.remarpro.com website.”
ALL seems to work now — with the editor.
There were missing files and files that were not needed it seems.
Earlier I upgraded another blog from 2.3.1 to 2.8 – MANUALLY. All worked fine as the proper files were there – it seems.
Hope this helps you all!

When I upgraded “manually” to 2.8 from 2.3.1 – EVERY THING SEEMS to be working with the editor.
On another blog…
When I upgraded “automatically” from 2.7.1 to 2.8 I have the same editing problem…No editing features with the “visual” editing.

In reply to: FAILURE ERROR – WorkPress Automatic Upgrade Plugin – From 2.0 to 2.6Dear Mercime:
Thanks so much for your response.
While I think my blog is still in tack and I do have the backup from the part of the WordPress Automatic Upgrade Plugin was successful, perhaps I should ask my host to restore the blog back to what it was a week ago.
I had not posted on that blog for a while. I was in the process of resurrecting it. I did not want to lose the years of entries and thoughts I shared.
Thanks for the links.
I am wondering, IF perhaps before I do this, since I know it might have to be restored by my host anyway… Perhaps I should try the upgrade in Fantastico. I never had much luck with that before, but who knows!
I will visit the sites you so graciously suggested and print out the info.
Thanks again.

In reply to: FAILURE ERROR – WorkPress Automatic Upgrade Plugin – From 2.0 to 2.6IF you can’t help with the problem I am having with the WordPress Automatic Upgrade Plugin above…
Could someone PLEASE tell me how I can do the upgrade *manually!*
Maybe the manual upgrade will work and I can move on.
PLEASE, if you can help.
I am using WP 2.0. This was my first blog. I have so much in there is would be terrible to just have to delete it and start over.
Thanks in advance.

In reply to: WordPress 2.6 – How to Change Time on Entry?Dear Mercime:
Thanks so much for taking the time to respond. I am very grateful. This will be very helpful information.
That blog finally got squared away and now I have new problems. I am using hte WordPress Automatic Upgrader which I used before successfully – except for the empty categories problem — which from what I understand is not related to the plugin.
This time the plugin failed or reported a failure. I am awaiting help from Keith, it’s creator. I am/was attempting to upgrade WP.0 to WP2.6 with the plugin.
Thanks again.
Roz
I am a little tired and worn out by this time, so pardon me if I am not making much sense.
Yes… Keith has been very helpful in this area.
Through Keith’s guidance and prompt email response
I was able to correct the *empty categories* through PHPadmin & WP-Admin. It was a two process procedure the way the instructions were given in the link below. This is the link I followed which is contained within the URL that Keith provided above
https://blog.cumps.be/wordpress-26-upgrade-fix-missing-categories/The place where I got stuck was once I was in PHPadmin, chose the table I needed to browse, I was not sure where to enter in the missing category information. At that point it was the category description. I had no idea where to type in the information.
What I did… was to fill in the *description* on one of the missing categories trough WP-Admin and then went to look at the PHPadmin and from this entry — thus I was able to see where I needed to fill in the information. From that point it was easy sailing.
It would have been helpful if a screen shot of that portion of the fix was added for those of us who are not programmers or are not totally familiar with PHPadmin.
But with a little work it got fixed.
I was so confident that I could do it again I attempted to upgrade one of my larger blogs this afternoon using the WordPress Automatic Upgrader.
NOW… I have yet another problem. The upgrade FAILED when it was trying to unzip the downloaded WP2.6 from the WordPress website — at least that is my take from the error message.
I am awaiting Keith’s help on this one.
Honestly I was too lazy to do this afternoon’s upgrade in the two steps that were suggested to me by a friend’s friend. She told me to upgrade manually to WP 2.5 (from 2.0) and THEN upgrade to WP2.6 using the WordPress Automatic Upgrader.
SUMMARY:
The original problem with the empty categories has been solved, but now there is a new problem with a FAILURE.I came over here to post it to the WordPress Forum.
Thanks Keith for your response on the missing category dilemma. I look forward to your help with my new challenge.

In reply to: Cannot edit or add new posts since 2.3 upgradeI can’t type more than one new message in the blog entry box.
Write / Post /
1) I CAN type in the title
2) I CANNOT type the entry in the entry box.IF I reboot and start over I CAN type *just one* entry and then it starts over again.
If we are all having the same or similar problems why can’t anyone help.
I too upgraded. Followed all the directions. Everything seemed to work until this.
I upgraded from 2.1 I believe to version 2.3. (I know I chose the right instructions and files)
Does 2.3.1 fix any of this?
Please help. I have too much to just dump!
