iirc, i think we didnt put plural form for the same word in multiple fields (i think u r supposed to?), we’d just put “music” for example on multiple fields. i dont know if that matters…

anyway, i posted this question, and then very soon after my husband said he’d delete the plugin and reinstall it, and that so far has completely solved the problem, he’s been making custom posts for the past hour and can edit them like he should be able to on gutenberg, all good. it reminds me of calling I.T. and they say, “did you try unplugging it and plugging it back in?” ??

hi, it’s with astra. i thought it might be bc i just updated astra, but this actually happened before i updated astra.

“What happens if you go through the WP admin area, and click into the posts list for the post type and click edit through that screen?” – same thing, i just get into backend – even when i went to create a new post, went to backend.

BUT good new – my husband just deleted the plugin, and reinstalled it – and now it appears to be working fine.

wordpress is so freaking wonky. thanks for your fast response! so it appears to be solved. if not ill rewrite i guess.

forget it, we now see the custom post types we created in the menu – so we clicked to enable them. the post types just took a while to appear.

forget it, found out (and am typing this from memory so i hope im getting it right in case anyone refers to this in the future). I had to go to wordpress dashboard, appearance, customize, custom post types, select the name of the custom post type i wanted to edit (like if i had called a custom post type “video,” i’d have to select “video” here – you can’t change all custom posts types at once at least in astra, you select one custom post type at a time and edit each one), click on title settings, then turn off meta or make any changes you want ??

Thanks so much!! I am looking into that ACF plugin now, thanks. I watched a few videos and I like that someone said it’s good if what you want isn’t a regular post, and isn’t a page. I dont know if I’ll be able to control if it appears on the homepage or archive, and if it will be missing the navigation – I want it to be standalone so nothing else flows to it – we’ll see, I’ll test it out. Thank you!

“If someone subscribed to your RSS feed, do you want them to be notified that a new blog post was published, even if it’s just an embedded piece of content?” heck no! but if i used the hide blog post option plugin, i dont think that would happen but i could be wrong.

“If visitors browse your archive, do you want those posts with embedded piece of content appearing alongside your other posts?” actually good point bc i have a separate archive page besides the homepage, i dont know if the hide post plugin hides it from the archive too.

the more i write to u im like – i should just do pages then, not posts. it’s like just an unlisted URL that icould share the link too, but if i dont put those pages in a menu it will remain hidden. good!

great points about the other posts’ prevoius and nexts navigation!!!!!! so smart!!!!!!! i didn think of that. it hurts to be a newb hahaha. i dont know if the hide post plugin (dont know the name of it offhand, there r probably many) or unlisted plugin takes that url out of the game completely though, it might. not sure.

i mean your 3 suggestions sound great but i dont know how to do any of those things, are there videos or tutorials i should watch? i wondered if there are like custom post types etc. it’s great to learn. as it staands im leaning towards just doing pages. i wish i could just post the content i want to link to on imgur but they dont keep what you post there forever.

I wanted the arrows to appear after every link I have (the site is weird, theyre not like links in the middle of paragraphs), not on the menu. Your whole response at first blush – was a little overwhelming for my level of knowledge but I am going to dissect it & some of was eye opening, and i did understand. THANK YOU!!! I also remembered last night, chatgpt can help with some stuff. i asked her to create css for link hover effects that did X (text bolds when you hover over it, etc), or tweak css i already had to change certain things like a color when i couldnt find where they were putting the hex code, and she did and showed me what she changed upon further prompting so i could learn.

i need to watch youtube tutorials etc. A lot of the website with effects show CSS and HTML and the css i can add easily by goin to appearance , customize, additional css – but the html i can’t add. i tried editing the block as edit as html, that didnt work, i tried adding a new html block. that simple ingredient i dont get. how to simply add HTML to the posts so i can have the full recipe (html + additional css) to make each effect work.

thanks for your response. from that same website, there is one box that says HTML, a different box that says CSS – see here. https://codepen.io/chancer5/pen/MWbvaeo but you are calling them one thing- “Html Css code.” -so i am confused. should i ignore the HTML and just copy the CSS in the “additional css” part of appearance – customize? i tried just doing css, ignoring html and it looks all messed up on my website (changed font sizes, etc etc. – but i see i can manually change the font name andsize and weight just by altering it in the code)

edit: i jut tried doing it with just css, changed font size and etc and it looks good! but im wondring why they have html code in that link?

SOLVED: after posting this, figured it out, am posting solution in case anyone read this in future. css has nothing to do with it. i deleted the CSS as it was inconsequential, at least for us.

here’s how we fixed it:

go to appearance –> customize –> global –> colors –> borders, and change it to whatever the color of your website is.

Is that you in the videos? What a patient way you have about you and a lovely voice. There’s still a little problem but you figured out a lot and we were literally watching your video and trying your solution when we got thi notification from you. i am making you a video now. THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP I cant believe it.

So after someone had written back, I wrote back and then they never wrote back. I think they are swamped. So I will try you again if you don’t mind. Basically on my post pages, paginayion does not appear – it used to. My husband and I both cleared caches, cookies etc. he disabled all plugins and reintroduced them one a time and nothing fixed the issue. Any idea on if this would be an astra thing or a wordpress thing and how to fix?

hi herman, someone has written back from astra. they have a lot of tickets and are busy, understandbly. i can see from their screenshot, from their view they can see paginatoin on the homepage (which is the most recent post), but on my screen and my husband’s, on multiple browsers, we cannot see pagination. so i think they and i have different views. i will see what they say. i will write back if they dont write back.
