In reply to: i need some help. this edit widget is driving me nutsesmi I simulated the problem with some graphics manipulation with Windows paint.
1st My blog is https://steveshamshack.com When I 1st started working with my blog before I installed any plugins (I was using theme 2012 at the time) I stumbled on how to alter the default widgets. Somehow (I haven’t fig that out yet) the hole blog got set back to the original default settings and I lost everything I had posted ( pictures, about me page and so on). For the life of me I can’t remember how I altered the default widgets. It is driving me nuts, trying to fig that out. I took a screen capture of the widgets screen the way it sits now and did a bit of graphics manipulation with Windows paint to show what the widgets screen looked like as I remembered it (this representation is supposed to be in theme 2012 not 2014). Please look at the Dropbox links https://www.dropbox.com/s/ussaxf8ver52zoi/widget2.jpg , https://www.dropbox.com/s/4n644wcc243dvxx/widget3.jpg and https://www.dropbox.com/s/gx4gsz8mswhho91/widget4.jpg Looking at the 1st picture see the edit box under the archives box? I could open and edit any of the default widgets that way in visual edit or the code edit . The edit box isn’t there now. Looking at the next picture I was able to drag the Other widget box to the side bar, open it up and add text. I can’t do that now. Picture 3 I was able to drag the meta widget over the side bar and open the widget and I could check off which of the 5 I wanted shown. And I can’t do that either. And now I can’t find how I stumbled on it.

In reply to: setting up registering 4 vistors to postI don’t control the hosting. But it would be no problem for the host to do that.

In reply to: setting up registering 4 vistors to postAlso just in case (I know it is a real long shot, 1 in 1,000 chance of it happening) What if someone managed to to hack my admin user name and password. Is there some way to setup a back door login for such an emergency. Like in the movie war games.

In reply to: setting up registering 4 vistors to postwebbrewers I did log out on the other laptop. Apparently WordPress didn’t like the hyphen in the email address that I choose to use for the test login. I didn’t see the box to resend the password. I choose my Gmail account and the test login worked. Thanks for the info.

In reply to: setting up registering 4 vistors to postwebbrewers The login/register setup is up and running just fine. No more problems with comment spammers. I do have a few questions. How do I add resend password box to the bottom of the registration page, like most web site registrations have in case the email with the with the generic password gets lost or hung up in cyber space. Also how do I change the look of the registration page?

In reply to: to mark/t31osI have MicroSoft Word. So I can write my story’s in MicroSoft Word on my laptop, change the fonts and font sizes to my liking, correct the spelling and grammar then upload the finished story file? Or just past the story into the post box and WordPress will except what I typed in MS Word without squawking?

In reply to: to mark/t31osWPRanger, I looked up fuctions.php anf found Codex > Functions File Explained: In it I found “One way to change the default behaviors of WordPress is using a file named functions.php. It goes in your Theme’s folder” I don’t know were the theme’s folder is. Given enough time I can find it. But it would help me if you could please tell me were it is.
