I had the same issue when I installed it today. I had to contact my website host, copy the URL that the twitter button was trying to invoke and send it to them so they could find the security rule that was blocking it. They whitelisted the rule and after clearing my broswer cache I was able to connect.

In reply to: [Tools for Twitter] [Plugin: Twitter Tools] Social dependenceSo it’s kind of depressing. No more bit.ly integration and link shortening, anther admin page to navigate when you push submit and more hoops to jump through if you schedule your posts. Not progress from my perspective.

In reply to: [Tools for Twitter] [Plugin: Twitter Tools] Social dependenceOh, and my problems have been with the ‘social’ plugin, not the Twitter Tools plugin.

In reply to: [Tools for Twitter] [Plugin: Twitter Tools] Social dependenceSo after a couple of hours messing around, searching web forums and several chat sessions with Hostgator to modify some security rules I was able to connect my profiles. Haven’t made a post yet to see how it’s working now.
It was being blocked by a different rule for me : mod_sec rule 1234234.
But I just sent the Hostgator Chat agent the url the command ws trying to hit and he near instantly identified and whitelisted the rule for me.
Still, I’m annoyed at the loss of two hours chasing this. That’s cost me over $1000!

In reply to: [Tools for Twitter] [Plugin: Twitter Tools] Social dependenceThis piece of fucking junk just totally sucks now! I’ve installed Social but can’t link it to my twitter or facebook. When I try to link I just get a page not found error.
I guess it’s free so I got what I paid for but I certainly expected more from Mailchimp.
This plugin is now a useless pile of steaming dog crap, make that monkey crap.

In reply to: [WPBook] [Plugin: WPBook] Checking permissions failedSo I’m getting the same notification but when I try to check permissions I get this response:
************************
Secure Connection FailedAn error occurred during a connection to https://www.richarddavisphotography.com.
SSL received a record that exceeded the maximum permissible length.
(Error code: ssl_error_rx_record_too_long)

Any idea on how I fix this?I’ve followed the other advice in this post and changed the advance settings as above. Where do i find what all the recommended settings should be. I gone back and forth through the setup docs but they seem outdated with regard to the screenshots. Am I missing something that steps through the choices on the Advanced Settings of the app?
Do I need to blow away my old app and create a new one?
