update on this project? ETA?… Or should I be more patient?

Firstly, I like where you are going with grouping (like categories) it’s more dynamic and flexible.

If you are going to make anything new… it might as well be ground shattering. As in, you should try to make something that could be integrated with WP3.

With respect to post integration, while you’re on the right track WRT the back-end admin features, it’s really important to be able to present it properly. My thought was to have a separate optional box at the bottom of the “write post” called MediaPress (maybe a good name for your project?). In the MP box you can select an album, audio file, or movie (via a pop up window with media browser) to post into the blog. Another few buttons later you could have the thumbnails and media links automatically placed (evenly spread out, alternative sides of the page, in the middle, whatever) within the blog… no hassle, no code for the author, drop dead gorgeous presentation.

That way I could post a blog, with a handful of relevant pictures, a media file and an audio file that are all part of the “experience”. And yes, of course all RSS compatiable.

While I’m not much of a code nut, I know that this stuff is POSSIBLE. I assure you its a feature that is much needed for many bloggers… making the blog experience more broad and inclusive of media.

Well I’m actually making good use of WP, and wouldn’t want phpwiki. In this case I was throwing together a contact list for my youth group (which uses a blog as it’s site) and I thought it would work best if THEY could edit it. The thing that inspired it was the “edit this entry” that shows on the page when I’m logged in. Could they not make that link available for more than just registered users, depending on a couple of per-page settings?

I would see this as an opportunity to include galleries and other media as a part of a post, not simply a plogger/zenphoto/gallery-like integration. Really WP is lacking a concise, clean, scalable, and well integrated way to organize and present audio, video, and photos within the context of a blog.

I think the best example of what is needed is the Apple iWeb sites, where photos, and audio are an integral part of the blog experience. Posts could be coupled with galleries, or media and all of it could be RSS compatible.

My advice is to keep focused on the integration with the blog side of things, and keep the generic blog that can plug in for the Gallery2, plogger, coppermine, and zenphoto.

podcasting, and photocasting built in, just like currently you can simply link to an audio and get a podcast going.

I with each media entry, be it a gallery, a single photo, a movie, or an podcast, it should be nested within a standard post. Meaning that if you want to single out all the photos, it’s a matter of making all the photo posts a particular category. I essence by nesting within posts, you can take advantage of all the built in WordPress sorting options.

Please! I’m interested in seeing what you do with these ideas! keep it up!
