I have the setting “Automatically compress newly-added images” on.

Workflow: Create new post. Upload image in the “Write Post” screen. Publish post.

Problem: The published post is using the uncompressed / original image.

Am I supposed to wait 5-10 minutes for the uploaded image to compress (that’s how long it’s taking for some reason), remove the original image from the post, then insert the compressed image manually? Is that the expected behavior?

My assumption was that once an image is uploaded and compressed, the compressed image would be the one served when the post viewed.

  • @apeoclock It usually compress the image immediately once the image is uploaded.

Have you performed a conflict test yet?

Try deactivating all plugins except for WP-Optimize and see if it is resolved.

If so, reactivate each plugin one at a time until you find the culprit. You can check for the issue between activating each plugin, so you can see which one is causing problems.

Please let us know your findings.

@apeoclock You need to turn this option on

Yes, it will take some time and compression will be done using cron job.
This is so because while creating / editing a page, you don’t want to face performance issues due to immediate compression script running.

That said, you don’t have to manually refer compressed image. It was done automatically by WP Optimize

@webulous I said that’s on in my very first sentence.

@apeoclock Ok. In that case the delay is expected behavior. And after the delay the compressed image will be served automatically and you don’t have to replace it manually.
