I managed to get the blank copy WP installed however I can now confirm that the plugin (s2member) doesn’t work in either installs.

One in:
public_html/

the other in:
public_html/test_wp/

Damn this is frustrating, I will post back if I find the fix.

Thanks again for the help but the person I am working with is running a VPS so I don’t think that the hosting company would be very willing to help with this issue. Can you be more specific about what needs to be configured? Is there a way of temporarily disabling some security settings completely in order to more accurately determine the problem?

Thanks for the response. I thought that too, but I checked the wp-admin and the plugin directories and their permissions are both set to 755. Also, wouldn’t my attempt at a fresh install eliminate that possibility?
