Try clearing browser cache and cookies or try from another computer / device.

Try renaming the wp-content/plugins folder and retry?
If it then works as expected, then rule out the rogue plugin by deactivating plugins one-by-one (or deactivating all and activating one-by-one).

Have you tried adding debug messages at the start of that function? (outside of any conditional loops) to verify the new theme users the “the_content” filter?

Do you have any published “POSTS” ?

This should be obvious but have you made sure that the folder and database you’re working are actually the correct ones?

Try renaming the wp_options table to something and the entire folder (eg: public_html to something) and see if that instantly breaks it ?

Do you see any javascript errors in the browser console?

Are you able to load the EDIT Post / Page screen and only have a problem when trying to UPDATE / SAVE a post?
Have you tried by clearing browser cache / cookies and logging in as another user / administrator or from another device / computer?

Do you see any JavaScript errors in the debugging console?
Inspect the empty element and see the source.

You need to make sure the images are served over HTTPS

If you want to reduce the white space, try reducing the height and it should work.
If not, try adding !important, example:
