I am facing the same 404 page not found issue on every link. My front page which is a place, where all my blog posts are posted is seen normally. Clicking on the links on the front page or on the menu results in the error 404 message.
My site had been hacked and I had then involved WordFence to clean it up, who loaded the clean files on to the server. At that time, I had lost access to the backend, that has now been restored. The pages and posts are there and editable, but don’t show up.
My hosting provider is Aabaco Small business (the erstwhile Yahoo Small Business) who don’t allow you to upload .htaccess files.
    My site is https://childsurgeon.com/blog/
Please do suggest workarounds (if technical, I will appreciate a link of some sort).
    Thanks

Thanks for your help Sabinoo and WPyogi. I nailed it down to Limit attempts plugin that was merely doing its job. Now I have to figure out a way to add myself as an exception. They have a whitelist for IP addresses that are excluded by my ISP assigns a variable IP address, so on to the plugin site to find an answer
Thanks once again for the help offered.

Spoke too soon. Shall try and go over each and every step tomorrow. Too late in India and time to sleep. My question still remains – How do I identify which plugin is the culprit?
    Thanks in advance

I renamed the plugin folder back to plugins. All the plugins came back. Activated each one by one and the peculiar thing is that even after including all of them the problem has not recurred. Does anybody have an explanation?

Thanks for the reply Sabinoo, I renamed the plugin folder in my cpanel and voila! i could enter the dashboard. Now all plugins have been inactivated. How do I identify which one is at fault?

OK, I tried changing the password many times through the log in screen but the same problem. I also tried checking what happens to the password through phpMyAdmin and suppose I type in say abdcde in the login screen something like $P$BuiO4iQr.zQeEr.XWYKLiLxIaE80uo. is displayed in the user_pass column of wp_users table. Does this help anyone in arriving at a solution?
    Thanks in advance
