In reply to: WordPress 2.9: your attempt to edit this post has failedCould be that “autosave” requires server config that has “safe mode off”?
Is there any mentioning that 2.9.1 prefers servers which have “safe mode off”?Forum: Installing WordPress

In reply to: 2.9 my story.I’m using wordpress for years and never had major issues. What I learned from senior webmasters to wait when new upgrades are released and carefully read the forums of wordpress specialists. Main problem I see, the different server configurations of all those providers around the world. At our region, almost all servers have, “safe mode on”. So the wordpress developers can hardly test all those different scenarios when a new wordpress engine is installed on a specific server. Is the wordpress software able to properly write all those entries into the database or are some functions blocked by the server configuration? Are too many plugins causing trouble? At the last upgrade to 2.8.6 I had to ask my provider to extent the server’s cache memory from 16 MB to 64 MB. Now it says, 2.8.6 is using at an average 31 MB cache memory. Could be like any OS, that requires 20% free memory cache to function properly, that the wordpress engine doesn’t work properly when it’s getting tight with cache memory.
Good thing is, all issues are solved so far, just be patient. Some things take a bit of time to be identified.Forum: Fixing WordPress

In reply to: After Upgrading to 2.8.4 Buttons of Visual Editor missingThanks, no, all these didnt help. Couldnt upgrade since 2.5 because the provider ran on 16 MB cache memory. Now he agreed to go to 64 MB. Since I’m a webmaster I have no problem to insert codes without a properly working editor. Just was wondering if there’s a solution without making a new install on a fresh database.
On the other hand, since 2.8.4 contains all components to run perfectly without bugs, it doesn’t make actually sense that it cannot upgrade from older versions, like 2.5. That 2.8.4 depends on componets installed at 2.7, this cannot be the case. Upgrade in steps? Never heard that before. What is missing in 2.8.4 that it needs from 2.7?
