I’m trying to capture people who are looking for Vermont maple syrup that maybe haven’t even been to Vermont. How do other websites rank at the top, or at least on the first page, if you do a general search? I guess I’m missing something.
If I do a general search for Vermont Organic Maple syrup, my website comes up on the first page. Which is great, but I’m missing people who are not typing in the word organic. A much larger pool to sell to…

thanks so much for checking it out!

Marios, was it really?? Like if you search for Vermont Maple Syrup? Cause it only comes up for me if I specifically type in Quarry Hill Farm organic Maple. If I leave out Organic then it doesn’t show up at all…. Weird.

Justin. Theres no budget for my website, sadly. I’m trying to give this a go on my own, but thank you for your suggestion. I’ve been working on optimization using Yoast. It’s come a long way, and I’ve managed to get the green light on most of my pages. Not perfect I know, but I’m trying…

Maybe there isn’t anyone available to educate me, but I thought I’d throw this question out there anyway. I’m still tweaking my site…. For fun I decided to search for Organic Vermont maple syrup and low and behold my site is a little more than 1/2 way down the first page. Not bad. BUT if you search for just Vermont Maple Syrup my site is missing in action. Also my site shows up in the organic search, but it’s all in lower case letters and not very noticeable… Anyone have any ideas how I can fix this? Thanks in advance.

So I’ve been working on my site for a few days. I’ve improved it in the ways that Yoast suggested, but I still don’t see my site anywhere. I can look it up directly, but if you search for Vermont Maple syrup it’s not there, or at least it’s pages away, (actually gave up looking for it 10 pages in).

Is there a trick I’m missing? I’ve verified my site with google, bing and two others, improved copy until yoast showed the green SEO ball next to just about all of my pages. I don’t want to expect too much too soon, but i seem to recall my old site being on the first page right away….

I’d appreciate any help anyone could give me.

Thanks! Can you recommend any that are easy for beginners? Yoast?? Maybe?

Thanks for your help Mike, but I just couldn’t get it to work for my specific situation. I tried using Table rate and that looks like it will do the trick. It adds up the weight in the cart and bumps the total for shipping up accordingly. It was a little time consuming to set up, and I had to think way ahead to what people might order, (larger orders…), but it seemed to do what I needed it to as I ran through the scenarios live. I did pass your plug in on to a friend of mine and she is most thankful!!

I realized that the only difference between my maple cream and the other products was that I forgot to delete the weight, (which I thought wasn’t necessary). Now I don’t get the error message on the other products, but It doesn’t say flat rate box at check out either. It has a message which states: “Please continue to the checkout and enter your full address to see if there are any available shipping methods.”

So, I’ve been setting up the dimensions of all of my products as well as the two boxes I use. Saved all of the changes and such… I tested it out on the site and it worked for the maple cream product – sort of. If I purchased 1 maple cream it would put it into the appropriate size box, but if I bought 7, (a number I knew wouldn’t fit into the box), it didn’t bump the box up to the larger box. It just kept it at the smaller box. It didn’t matter how many I ordered. the box never fluctuated.

The rest of the products are not working at all. I get an error message saying that the product # is missing dimension, aborting. But the dimensions are there. I went on to the plug in site and followed the directions on how to add dimensions and it’s exactly what I have.

So, I guess I have two issues. For some reason my dimensions are not being recognized and the plug in doesn’t appear to be adding up dimensions to switch to the next size box… Am I making sense? Feel free to look at my site if you need a visual. quarryhillfarmmaple.com

If you can help me out – thanks!

ahh! I get it. Thanks! I’ll give it a shot.

One thing though. I don’t really need to set up zones, since flat rate boxes from the USPS don’t use zones to determine pricing. Can I skip this part and just use the dimensions of the box?

I’ve been checking out the link and it very well may work. Thank you! I appreciate your time.

Sorry that was a confusing post. I am using USPS flat rate. (if it fits it ships). This is where my problem is. I can fit 4 quarts of syrup into a large flat rate box for $17.00. Right now, if someone orders 4 quarts off of my site they will be charged 4 separate shipping fees, (4×17.00), which is WAY too much. Same for my other smaller items. This must happen when people sell t-shirts or similar things via flat rate I would think…. I just can’t wrap my head around how to make my shipping work.

Thank you SO much!! It worked like a charm. I’m new at this website building stuff and it’s folks like you that have made it possible for me to accomplish what I needed to do without spending a small fortune on a site I would end up not liking anyway. Seriously, you are the BEST!
