If I switched to the default theme would my changes in child theme be erased?

i tried resetting the plugins folder and that didn’t work and I’m not sure how to re-upload all files and folders…Would I have to do that through my hosts website? Or could I do it manually through FTP?

Sorry I am new to this, does that mean I need to create another document to import into my child theme called content.php and then make the changes there?

What code do I need to include to make sure it overrides the parent theme?
