Thanks for the update. I have the plugin set to sort users by Last name, first name (username). When I go to notify users of a post, it shows last name, first name (username), but the users are still sorted by username (not last name).

No worries — thanks for the fantastic plugin! I am not a programmer and every solution that I found before this one was well beyond my ability. There are lots of (old) very angry threads around about this issue, so you are definitely fulfilling a need here!

Found it. The plugin BP-Registration-Options was preventing it from working. Fortunately, I don’t really need this plugin anymore and was thinking of deactivating it anyway.

I installed and changed settings as instructed there and the line and paragraph breaks are now working just fine in my emails.

Thanks for getting back to me. The emails are set to send as HTML, but I have been editing the posts in the visual editor. When I switch over to see the source code, there are no linebreaks at all (even though these appear in the actual page as published).

This seems to be a WordPress issue, rather than any problem with your plug-in. Thanks for the help!
