Ick. That hurts, Ellie. I just got a message from my ISP a few minutes ago that they’ve decided the problem is with the receiving servers but they suggest that the plugin should send mail singly and spread out over time. I would like to suggest this to the plugin programmer but I don’t seem to be getting any response from them.
Thoughts?

In reply to: Bug: Locks up on long commentsGood idea.
More interesting… I went to Plugins-Installed, selected all of them using the top check box, bulk:deactivate, Apply and got the message “The site is experiencing technical difficulties. Please check your site admin email inbox for instructions.”
I reloaded my dashboard and went to Plugins-Installed and it still looks the same and none were deactivated. Site seems to behave other than that.
Did it again and yes it is reproducible.
Disabling a single plugin works fine.
Reactivating it works fine.
But the bulk deactivating is causing a problem.
Or it thinks it is to anthropomorphize WP.I’ll try Health-Check when I get a chance.

In reply to: [WPBruiser {no- Captcha anti-Spam}] Blocks anonymouse.orgThere are perfectly valid reasons why people use proxy servers and it has nothing to do with hiding but rather with being able to bypass IP blocks from ISPs, governments, etc. You as the plugin author should not be making this decision but rather leave the decision to me as the blog owner. Ding to you. I’ve removed your plugin.

In reply to: [Simple Top Commenters] Odd bug with high count nameUpdate: Switching from Email to Name on the “Define Commenters by” variable makes it work properly (no more absurdly high random person) but you still might want to check on the bug. I looked at the people who were showing up randomly as the super commenters and think I might have found a pattern. All of them were “@blogger.com”. That might be a clue or a coincidence.

In reply to: why not a better default theme? From what I’ve read in the support forum the five month old update of 2010 is filled with problems.
I’m proposing that when WP designates a theme as default that a commitment to compatibility maintenance be made because a lot of users are using those default themes. Forcing them to change to a new theme through obsolescing the old default themes creates problems. Change merely for change’s sake is not good.

In reply to: why not a better default theme? It would also be good if the previous default themes continued to receive support. Because they are the default people use them in great numbers. There would seem to be the implication that that the provided default them would continue to get support. Just because the default changes doesn’t mean I want to change the look and feel of my blog. I started with 2010 and would like to stay with that. But it is not receiving support and I’ve been told not to expect it to continue to be supported by future WP releases.

In reply to: 3.8 admin panel design is very badThe consensus of this thread from users is: “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”
[Unnecessary comment about moderators removed]
The simple solution would be to not mung things up so with fast changes and not lose functionality that people are using. Changing icons, repainting, etc are not useful. Those things should be done in plugins or themes, not at the fundamental level. Legacy support and backward compatibility is critical – including being able to be used by naive users who are used to the old interface.

In reply to: 3.8 admin panel design is very badNot liking the new Admin.
Changes to layout aren’t useful and waste time of users who need to do work as well as wasting time of support. No need to make people hunt around for how to do things they’ve been able to do before. No need to take away informational displays we use.
Backend functionality improvements, fine.
Front end should stay consistent unless user wants change.Forum: Plugins
In reply to: [Akismet Anti-spam: Spam Protection] Database growing at an alarming rateI think I had this happen to. My spam count got up over 50K and then my WP dashboard slowed way down when dealing with comments at all. This was a few weeks ago. Right now I’m dealing with that again this morning. Akismet also seems to be missing a lot of spam and I end up getting emails about comments that are really spam.
