Hi Nick. False alarm. Cpanel fixed something on my server completely unrelated to the matter here.
I just tried again here by deleting the calendar that looked backwards (the one that didn’t work), and cloned the calendar that looks forwards (the one that does work). The clone worked while a perfect clone. I then tweaked it by just changing the three fields to:
Calendar start: today
Earliest event: two years before start date
Latest event: day end of start dateAnd I get “Nothing to show”, as you can see. Really don’t know why. Help!
Hang on a mo. One of my sites just fell over. Hmmm. Nick, please don’t think any more about this until I’ve worked out if there’s a wider problem. I’ll be back soon as. Cheers.
No HTML in the event builder.
Reduced the earliest event to two years before start date and the error disappears. Hmm. This process can’t take up all that much memory, can it?
Unfortunately it still doesn’t work as expected. For example, there are 8 events currently listed in the calendar from 1st June 2015 to the end of the year. 7 in the past as I type, and 1 in the future. But with the settings as follows, I get “nothing to show” displayed.
Calendar start: today
Earliest event: two years before start date
Latest event: day end of start dateForum: Plugins

In reply to: [Zerif Lite] Can't add an "about us" sectionThanks Alexandra. That explains it. If I may make a suggestion, the webpage detailing the differences between free and paid themes could do with being less confusing. I thought, for example, that there was Pro (paid) and Lite (free), and that I had the Lite. Now you’re telling me I don’t.

In reply to: [Zerif Lite] Can't add an "about us" sectionIt doesn’t appear to be. See this screenshot. Unless I’m really missing something!

In reply to: [Zerif Lite] Contact us section on homepage not workingEither an email isn’t being sent, or because it isn’t authenticated the email is getting killed by spam filters.
For the first, try WP Mail SMTP.
For the latter, you’ll need to learn a bit about DKIM/SPF, and then determine how to use a service to route your email (eg, Amazon SES).

In reply to: Remove anchor links from excerptHmm. Tried a manual excerpt with the text stripped of its anchor links. But it appears the manual excerpt isn’t being called as this has made no difference.

In reply to: Auto update to wrong versionThanks Marius, I hadn’t appreciated that, thank you. I have revisited the Automatic Background Updates page to read it more slowly!

In reply to: Auto update to wrong versionIt’s 10 days since 4.2.1 and all seven of my WordPress installs were stuck on 4.1.4. All promote the availability of 4.2.1 in their respective dashboards, but none auto-updated.
I ran “Background Update Tester” on all of them, and each passed all tests.
I have now upgraded all but one – https://www.influenceprofessional.com – in case that’s any use here in debugging.

In reply to: [Advanced Excerpt] 4.2 has broken my homepageHi Shana, I’m just about to go to bed (I’m in London) but I can tell you that everyone here will want to see your website for some clue to the cause of your problem. What’s the URL?
And did you upgrade / change anything else at the same time?
Same questions from me.

In reply to: Distraction-Free Writing stopped workingOh. Right. This is the new behavior. By design. Hmm.
Works a treat if 1. you don’t have alert messages above the editing window, and 2. your mouse doesn’t stray off the straight and narrow, ending one’s distraction-free session immediately. Now I’m distracted by keeping my mouse under control!
