Why is html showing on my news page? How do I keep the news automatically updated?

I think I have an old theme. I can’t seem to find another one I like so I am stuck for now (taking suggestions).

Anyway, I am reading the book titled WordPress Complete and I followed the instructions for a feed on my frontpage.

It works, but shows html tags on the front page.

How do you enable a theme for widgets by the way?

And how do I get the visitor to open a seperate browser when clicking on the news link, so they do not totally go away from my site?

Okay….all this is fairly scary to me. I haven’t got a clue. Should I just stay away from this (I sure do want some news content) or is there a simpler plugin.

I installed in cPanel with Fantastico. Do I do anything different due to this situation?

I am afraid to upgrade. I paid to have the theme built and do not know if I will break something. Any pointers?
