Is the default image you’re seeing showing up on the Post page or when trying to build a page?
If it’s during page building it looks like Amber uses Visual Composer, and the stock Grid Elements (e.g. Post Grids) will use the default Featured Image field (supports=>...'thumbnail'...) instead of a custom image field. You may be able to get around this by creating your own Grid Elements.

Dear Brelix and Marcin,

This plugin formerly worked with Visual Composer up to version 1.6.6.6 however version 1.7 and up will no longer show your registered Custom Post Types when trying to use Visual Composer elements such as a Post Grid. In the meantime if you’d like to try Types with Composer I recommend installing the aforementioned older version.
