Forum: Installing WordPress
In reply to: Root vs Subdirectory InstallationMaybe some eCommerce sites want the root domain for business, but if you are services company you can still use a static page for your homepage.
Just go to > Settings > Reading, then “front page displays” > static page but just make sure you have created it first. This is what I’m doing because I want to reserve the Homepage for something else.
It just depends on what you need it for, blogging or business? I would say for blogging use the root and for business, use a directory.

In reply to: Point domain to new WP siteYou will need to point the domain at your hosting first to even get the option of logging into > settings > General, but if you have set it up right then when you bought the hosting and gave your domain name and installed wordpress to that domain then you won’t need to change anything under settings unless you want the www. and not the root domain or you want wordpress in a sub directory.

In reply to: Panoramic Theme – Remove grey box from Header ImageGoogle “inspect element chrome” and add it to your browser, then go to your site, right click the bit you want to remove and it will show the the div, class etc. Then go into your theme files and edit them.
The elements you’re looking for are “overlay top-padded” and “opacity”
There should be options there in the theme options to change this, have you looked?

In reply to: Do I need a host with wordpress outside of wordpress?Hosting it yourself is a little better IMHO than on wordpress.com.
You can get free hosting if you look hard enough to get your site stared, try Hostinger.

In reply to: Creating a web siteI would buy the domain and hosing, set the site up, download the files and databases. Then either transfer the domain or point it at their servers and hand their files over or get their FTP details and upload it yourself.

Had Yoast set up wrong, it had %%page%% which is a placeholder the plugin can’t handle. Just changed it to %%title%% and works fine. Thanks for your help!
